My child does not like attending school anymore and does not feel safe. More staff and peer supports are needed to address bullying. She is preforming well at her studies but is distracted by avoiding fights and peer intimidation. Also, I believe she could be challenged more academically.
I have been very impressed with the sixth grade teachers. They have shown great teaching skills, efforts, and dedication. My child has improved considerably thus far. The only disapointment has been the hour of lunch time, and the cafeteria staffs rudeness to the children. That needs work. Overall, I rate the school high.
Parents rating this school as 'great' are the minority, not the majority. I & the majority of parents I know or speak with feel this school is of extremely low quality. Much of the staff is incredibly rude/lacks basic manners, the new resource officer is unprofessional/unethical & shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a school campus. There's a 50/50 chance (at most) of getting a teacher that will even bother speaking with a parent. Every parent I know is continuously working to get their child out of this school or praying that their child makes it through. Many students show little/no respect & it creates a dangerous and chaotic environment. It creates an environment that's makes learning difficult. There is a general feeling of disgust/hatred of the school by students & parents alike from all racial & income backgrounds with students being from all levels of education.
This is a great school with terrific teachers who really actually care about students, and a great safe area.
I love my school. I am a straight A student and are a candidate for the nationakl junior Honor Society. The teachers are amazing, especially Mrs Bashinski. Honestly, the students could use some work some times but we are like every school with its extremely occasional fights.
My child says her teachers are all very nice; but does not seem to be highly motivated in the area of science (it would be nice if the students could have projects, or experiments to do rather than mostly just of of the book studying. Computer classes simply not challenging enough, either.
When you are a parent that cares about your child's education, you will monitor your child and your child's educators. My oldest child attended Lockhart and did not do well. I blame my child for not wanting to learn and I blame the teachers for giving up when I did not. Not matter how often I was at the school, most of her teachers turned their back when she decided she wanted to learn. I now have another child in Lockhart, the staff has changed because a lot of her elementary school staff are now at Lockhart and I know I won't have the issues that I had with the oldest child. Education begins at home. School/teachers are not our babysitters. We send our children to school to learn the criteria needed to become successful in life.
What a wonderful year Lockhart has had. The Visual Arts teacher has supported my child through a difficult time in our family. The school is working hard to raise test scores. Reading and writing are skills are strong at this school. More parent need to be involved, PTA and SAC are low on parents.
My son is in his second year at Lockhart and has had many excellent learning experiences and teachers. He is frequently out of school for competitions. His principal, guidance advisor, and teachers have been very supportive in my son's endeavors. The support given him has allowed him to stay on track with his school work while he is away. The staff is very visible during the school day and violence is kept to a minimal. I frequently volunteer at the school and do not see many disturbances. This is a very diverse cultural school with great learning and extracurricular experiences for the students.
Lockhart has a low level of parental involvment throughout all grades, and a good music program<band and chorus> , and an average to below average art class , sports are included in P.E. and track and basketball and volleyball.Plus there is a free after school prgram , The Boys and Girls Club of orlando. There are of course a few good teachers and a couple of bad ones , though classes are around average. This school also has a reputation for violence and such. The level of racial tension is extreme. This school is not fantastic , but I would never call it bad, and also there are no *superficial standards* at all.
My child started 6th grade last year @ Lockhart Middle School. I was terrified to put her there because I had heard people tell me how rough the school was and there there was a lot of violence. This couldn't be further from the truth. She was on the 'Panther' team, which is regarded as the more 'advanced' students, and was surrounded every day by the same group of kids. All of the teachers motivated the kids to do well. The music program is wonderful! I was surprised to find that there are so many extracurricular activities . . there's something for everyone. The band program rocks! This school far exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I gave this school a chance. She loves this school and can't wait to be a 7th grader. All of my worries were for nothing. The school is great.
Great School . My daughter is in 7th grade on the diamonds team . All of her teachers are wonderful. She loves it.
Excellent experienced teachers, dedicated administration, diverse student body Old facility, but fairly well maintained Strong curriculum following Orange County's and FCAT requirements Parents invited to participate in SAC and PTSA Free after school program through Boys and Girls Club
My son attends Lockhart Middle school and is in the gifted program. The teachers are wonderful. Lockhart needs more parents involved. The principal is working to make Lockhart an 'A' school.
My son is in the eighth grade at lockhart. I will be very happy when he leaves that school. There are alot of fights and racial tension. The teachers at lockhart are great. But, I have been told from some of these teachers about the daily fighting and racial problems. I have also seen it and heard many students comments about each other, which starts a fight. Lockhart transfers in many students from other school districts. Most of these tranfer students are trouble and start trouble at lockhart. So I ask, why are they here. Lockhart needs to help it own district kids before bringing in others.
My child was a member of the tiger team at Lockhart and Mr. Levine who was the geography teacher was the most caring and motivating factor in my childs school career thus far.
My child has attended Lockhart Middle School. Some of the teachers are wonderful and really care about the students. I found overall the quality of education was somewhat lacking. The school is a 'C' school (FCATS).
