My school is an amazing place! The teachers & staff are very helpful and patient. The best education in Pensacola.
I am an alumna of SOLA, and I could have never believed that my high school experience would have made such a great impact on me. I attended Gulf Breeze High before transferring; the shoe just didn't fit for me. SOLA has a morning discussion which covers all topics (local and global) in hopes to educate the students. This allows them to have a voice in the classroom. The daily curriculum requires strength in reading and comprehension, and reinforces the importance of legible penmanship, lost today with the rampant use of technology. The curriculum at times is often quite extensive, comparative to a college classroom. The core classes are taught in 8 week blocks with math as the last hour of each day (practice makes perfect). SOLA strives to prepare students for the next step.... LIFE...They are funded solely by the tuition received from those enrolled, which allows the teachers to break free from the chains that bind education to standardized testing. This allows students to ask real questions and receive real answers. FINALLY, an education relieved from the vortex of politics!!! Gnothi Seauton~
Best school ever! Everything I've learned, I learned at Liberal Arts. Great teachers and no political partisanship in lessons.
A school like no other, truly unique and one of the best places to get an education.
This school offers a small learning environment where the students are taught to have their own ideas and thoughts. These individual ideas are valued by both their peers and the faculty and staff. They are learning the value of an education with the freedom to have independent thoughts. They are breeding leaders not sheep.
I went to this school and it saved me. I had been kicked out of two different public schools either by being severely bullied or by being asked to leave. Liberal Arts accepted me. They became my family when I had none. This school offers one on one attention and guidance to students who are in dire need of positive direction. They changed my life and I do not know where I would be without them. Thank you to the teachers and to Mr. Holston for starting this amazing place. If you have any doubts about sending your child here, please hear my words and know it's truly worth it. The teachers would sit with me after school and talk to me when I needed them.
I think this school is a great opportunity for kids that get lost in public schools. The teachers an staff give the students the extra attention an time when they need it. I know that this school has given so many students a future they would never of had in another school.
As a parent, I find this school to be true to the proper Education our children need. The teachers, staff, and students are all wonderful and caring. I leave my daughter everyday at the school, knowing she is safe, and in the proper teaching hands. I wish I had known about this school for some of my older children. I do know the others will attend. I could have used a school like this when I was growing up.
My son attends SOLA, the Pensacola School of Liberal Arts. Although I live overseas, in Greece, the communication with the school's Principal and teachers is excellent, making me feel closer to the education process of my son. As my son is a fairly typical adolescent who would rather play than study, I have found that the daily examination of all students on the material of the day has forced my son to stay far more up to date with coursework vs. the random examination which is more typical of schools. Also, the system of teaching one unit at a time is very helpful to my son as he can focus on many aspects of the same subject vs. having to follow a number of different subjects at the same time. All in all, I am grateful that my son studies at SOLA and I feel that he gets the best education that he could have. As a last comment, I have lived for very many years in the USA, and I am an educator myself, so I have first-hand understanding of school systems in two countries. I truly believe that SOLA's approach is very well worth looking into as a blueprint for public schools as well. To conclude, the Pensacola SOLA gets the highest recommendation from me.
My school has both inspired and encouraged me to keep going and give my best since I started back in November. Before I started, I had been struggling with attendance and keeping up with my work for the past year. Joining Liberal Arts has shaped me back into the A Honor Roll student I was and has helped me to continue on and challenge myself. I'm more than pleased to be a part of it and can't wait to be here for the next 3 years.
My daughter attends SOLA and I absolutely love the staff. She has excelled in her knowledge and learning skills in the two years that she has attended. I feel secure that she will not be left behind on any subject that she may have trouble understanding, because of the individual direction that SOLA has always offered. Great job and a big thank you from me!
After working at the school for several years I've had a chance to share in the vision started by Mr. Holston so many years ago. A chance to watch students who felt like they had nowhere to go and no one who understood them find a home where they could be themselves and feel like they had a voice. They know they're not just a number on a computer screen. If I could do one thing, it would be to find a way to let everyone ages 12 to 18 who feels lost and forgotten, know that we are here and anxious to show them the key to knowledge and hopefully themselves.
I love SOLA! It has a comfortable schooling atmosphere and the way the curriculum is taught, you absorb everything that is taught to you. The reason why this is a better choice than ANY other school in this area is because of 3 things; curriculum, hours, and information taught. The curriculum is better than a lot of schools because in other schools you take a test and whatever grade you get, you have to stick with. At SOLA, you can retake ANYTHING! The best part, no FCAT! The hours are quite fun too! You only go for 4 hours and then if you need help after school, the school stays open another hour to help and 'tutor' the students who need that extra help. The information given is also really important. We always talk about real-world situations and what's going on in the news, in our life, or whatever topic we bring. There is also a small student body. This personally helps me because of my social anxiety. Everybody at that school gets along and bullying is not tolerated the tiniest bit. I have became more mature because of this school and learned how to be self-disciplined outside of school to get certain tasks finished in the certain amount of time given. SOLA is the bomb!!!!!!!!
My school is the best place that I have ever experienced the Power of Knowledge... Just as it's original founder intended, the teachers and staff here are continuing his work. And it shows. Thank you!!
I am a proud alumni of this amazing school! I would recommend this school to anyone who thrives in a more open environment! it offers more one on one teaching and prepares you for all the hardships life (and college) may bring! fantastic school in all aspects!
The adolescent years are different for everyone, but they are almost always difficult. Some may be struggling to keep up in school because earlier education systems have failed them. Others may be at a critical point in their lives where emotions are high, so school has been pushed to the sideline. Another is troubled by the lack of relevance being offered in their educational curriculum. Perhaps a student simply doesn't feel 'challenged.' And yet another student may feel ostracized and have trouble fitting in at their current school. This school caters to students in all of these situations, and more. The student is recognized as an individual and is valued. Many times, all it takes for a student to experience a "turn around" is to be acknowledged and heard. This school does not take that for granted. This school aims to instill in every child the foundation necessary to excelling in ALL walks of life; and, will work with every student to be the best they can be for them. Ask almost any alumnus, and they will cite their time spent here as some of the most important years of their life. Don't miss out on this exceptional opportunity for your middle or high school aged child!
I am a proud alum of Liberal Arts and would recommend this school for any student out there. The school values every student and takes the time to make sure they are getting the best education they can. You leave this school with an education and an experience no other school can give you. This more than a school, it's a family.
This school provides a small environment with one on one instruction. They have a very caring approach to each students needs. Each teacher takes a hands on approach with every student. They are not only teaching education but real life skills to take with them for the next phase of life.
As a mother, the choice I made to withdraw my child from public school, was by far the smartest decision I've made. Before attending this school, he was enrolled in Escambia county's "school for the gifted" however, he was never challenged or motivated to be involved in class activities. Pensacola School of Liberal Arts stimulates his desire to learn and keeps him on his toes DAILY by discussing matters that are relevant in life experiences. My child's education is by far the most important thing for me in his young adult life and, now that I've found SOLA I'm confident he will graduate with a full scholarship offer to several different choice colleges. Most importantly, he is happy again and excited to go to school every single day!! Thank you SOLA
I would like to thank those who have shared their great experiences at Pensacola Private School of Liberal Arts, and I hope those who are seeking an alternative to today's public schools find these reviews helpful in their decision making. William J. Holston founded our school in 1969 and spear headed the program that thrives today. After 42 years of teaching, we all knew there would come a day that he would have to pass his torch. Unfortunately, our "Captain" passed away on May 10th, 2011. Shortly after his passing a new principal was chosen by the Board of Directors to fill some very big shoes. I would like to ensure those who continue to have faith in us, that the SOLA staff will perpetually pass on the educational legacy of William J. Holston. Those who graduate from our school not only receive a standard high school diploma recognized by the State of Florida, they take the tools with them to become a well-rounded adult and individual. One may ask the SOLA alumni as well as those who have had shorter experiences with us, and most would agree that SOLA is not just a school. SOLA is a place that forever touches the heart in ways that words just cannot properly explain.
