Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

2013-2014 brought SLW K-8 the best principal in the county! Students, parents, teachers and staff are smiling once again.

St. Lucie West K-8 is awesome! It is the best that I have seen of all of the Elementary schools in the county. My daughter transferred from a charter school that had major issues with indiscipline and a teacher from hell. Soon after transferring to St Lucie West K-8, her new teacher recognized her academic abilities and sent her to an advance reading class.....She is also student of the month and is happy to have a teacher who actually cares about children....No more beatings and kicks from other kids.....and a chance to focus on learning in an environment conducive to learning.

i think wast gate k-8 is the best school in the area. ive never seen a better school. the principal is terrific. ha goes into the classrooms and interacts with the kids. and the teacher! they like to keep the students happy. they teach and give assignments but they have fun too!

The staff needs some training on how to be more professional. I would understand someone had a bad day but EVERYONE the same day and not just one day multiple times. Also what is the point on checking ID if they don't even look at the picture

So disappointed. Gives the outward appearance of greatness, not a lot of substance, especially for elementary kids. No clubs or interesting resource classes. The administration is unfriendly to parents and my kids never even saw the principal/vp all year long. Beware if your child is special needs- find somewhere else to go!

My children are new to the school and I can't say that it's a bad school nor can I say that it's great. They have some excellent teachers and staff but some of the policies need some work. For example the dress code is enforced depending on staff's feeling and not across the board. Get a grip. Giving lunch detentions for not wearing a belt? While other things are permitted. Also some of the office staff don't know the meaning of being professional. Try setting the example. I guess you can't have a perfect school.

This school is the best. The teachers are great. And I love that my child will get to be here for middle school and we dont have to worry about finding another great school. I have no complaints.

The teachers and administration are very caring about their students. Our grandchildren came from another state and all of the faculty was very helpful in making the transition as smooth as possible for the children, their father and us grandparents who are also caregivers to the children. They do their best in helping all students to excell in all subjects.

I've been in this school since 6th grade. It was okay at first, but now I don't like it. I'm in the gifted program and in 8th grade and I have to eat lunch with 7th graders. I also think the dress code was okay at first I could understand that they don't want kids dressed the wrong way, but it has just gotten ridiculous. It seems every day I go to lunch they have something to add to the dress code. I also think our principle does nothing, the only time I see her is at honor roll ceremonies, or sometimes on the morning announcements. Electives stink, band stinks (not enough people, but an awesome teacher).

The longer my child attends Saint Lucie West K-8, the more I love it. My child loves her teacher, and her class. The school itself runs like a well oiled machine. I would highly reccommend this school to anyone seeking a quality education for their child.

If your child is Special Needs, stay away! Special Needs children are treated as second class students, and not given the benefit of the doubt concerning disciplinary situations.

This school is a good school and the courses are top-notch but there isn't much extra-curricular activities except in the morning.

What can I say about this school. Its rated a five star school. What does this mean? Let me tell you what this means nothing. This school is a big disappointment they care more about the dress code than the students.

This school just turned into a K-8 school from a middle school. This is a high rated school noted for being the best middle school in St. Lucie county in 2005.The teachers and staff are A+. Children can succeed at this school as the quality of staff is exceptional. Yes the school has a strict dress code enforced but this year most schools in this county have a strict dress code, It is a better learning environment when the children are dressed in the same attire.

This school is a very nice school! This year they had a new principal so that's why I think it is more stricter than last year. The extracurricular activities are greart, they give knowledge for future reference. The one thing I don't really like about this school is the dress code which is collard shirts and small logos on clothing. It's very hard to find there specific dress code at many stores. I hope next year when it turns into a K-8 school the dress code is better. Parents are involved in alot in that school, almost in every event you always see many parents. Overall I give this school a 6 out of 10.

This school seems good, overall. My daughter is in 6th grade, there. Her team, the Mako Sharks, is good with the exception of one teacher who seems to have an attitude problem towards heavier, less popular kids. One teacher has taken her under her wing, and that's a plus.
