Not thrilled with the organization of the school. It seems they want to have activities all the time- but they are very disorganized! I have been to several events. And there was no back up plan for a rainy day, on one occasion, and teachers were a mess- no one knew what was going on, or where they should be. The communication between the teachers and principal was not there. They talked down to the kids (several teachers) I went to a teacher evaluation- some of the kids books were not evaluated- and the teacher just said- "yes he is fine, don't worry about him"- Not exactly what a parent wants to hear about their child! They call your house about 3-5 times a week at 6pm (dinner time) and leave messages. The Parent teacher communication books- are checked about once a week- instead of daily. My daughter says they sometimes don't have vegtables at lunch- I guess they consider french fries and tater tots a veg! I do like the uniforms. I don't think my daughter will attend next year :-(.

Staff need to learn manners with parents and students. Talked to many parents who feel the same way. I would never allow my child to attend prior to 8:10 AM because prior to that they are required to report to cafeteria and the staff there create not just an unhealthy atmosphere. Addressed matter with asst. principal, but nothing has changed. Son comes home distraught, stressed out. Too regimented, no nurturing. Time out on bench outside during recess for forgetting 1st grade homework or typical age behavior in lunch room.

We came to SJE from one of the top 10 schools in the Nation. Needless to say, we were concerned that we would not be able to get what we had for our children when we moved. We were wrong! It's better! As a parent of 4, I have never experienced being more welcome in an elementary school. SJE encourages parents to volunteer, they allow you to come eat lunch with your child, they offer a 'Family Center' in the mornings so you and your children can pick out books to read together..the list goes on and on. My most impressive quality is that one of my children came to SJE behind in 1st grade. With the assitance of their reading program and excellent teaching, my now 4th grader gets straights A's and 5's on her FCAT. I love how they teach to the 7 Highly Effective Habits of Children too.

We moved to Florida a year ago and were very concerned about the quality of education in Florida. I currently have 2 children enrolled at Sallie Jones. The school has been fantastic! The teachers are great and very accessible. They use the right rewards for getting children to work hard. My kids are in good hands.

My child is in the 3rd grade at Sallie Jones Elementary. She has attended since 1st grade when we moved to Florids. I am very impressed with the curriculum and quality of teaching at Sallie Jones. They have a uniform policy that I think keeps the emphasis on learning and are a year round school which helps students retain more and regress less. For the past three years the academic programs have been tailored to meet my child's needs and keep her involved and challenged. Each week my child attends music, art, physical education, career lab as well as media and computer classes. Afterschool programs include math detectives, acting/storytelling and jump for life jumprope programs. I have been nothing but impressed with Sallie Jones Elementary believe it is one of the best schools in Charlotte County

I am new to Florida and am thrilled with the quality of education that my son is receiving. Numerous programs encouraging reading are provided, from student participation to parent education. The entire staff has always been extremely helpful. Instead of focusing on punishment for wrong behaviors, the principal has established several reward systems for good behavior and thoughtful actions throughout the school, including the cafeteria and the bus. The teachers all seem to be very energetic and excited to be teaching our children.

I have been very impressed with SJE. Because their focus on Reading is so high my son would rather read for enjoyment then watch t.v. The teachers at SJE are kind and supportive of all the students.

That the media center needs to inform the principal about changes before doing them. That when students are to be given awards that they should be given on time not at the end of the school year.
