Not as many resources as other schools that have been around 50 years - but a great school and very proud kids

I am a parent of 3 boys at this school. It is a wonderful place where Christian Values and Love are practiced and taught daily. I am so very grateful to have my boys here in this amazing place! The Academics are significantly above any of our friend s children or neighborhood friends. The graduates from here also test and place in honors classes etc. when they move on to high school. I would never send my children anywhere else.

This school was excellent for our child in middle school. Teachers are very caring. Atmosphere of school friendly, supportive, family like, and definitely promotes Christian values. Middle school incorporated IPads and it has been a wonderful transition from traditional learning. The children are very engaged and excited about learning with this technology addition. Difficult locating a high school that is as tech savy as this middle school. Science and math average, need a way to separate learners who can excellent from those a who need extra help. Language art, reading, religion, and social studies, P .E. , excellent. We had a very positive three years at this school and would recommend it.

Our child has been attending Saint Stephen Catholic school since she was 4 years old. We have been very happy with the school. Our child is ahead of her peers in the public schools. The teachers are qualified, loving, caring and they constantly inspire the students to reach their full spiritual and academic potential. The class sizes have been criticized in some of the reviews, yet each class has an assistant teacher and the teachers have their classes under control. The school has an enrichment program, computer lab and library, catered lunch order program, Spanish, music and art. There are a lot of after school sports, art and community involvement programs available.

At the beginning of the year many of us were shocked and saddened with the departure of the Sisters. I must admit I was very upset and did contemplate pulling my daughter from the school, but my husband and I decided not to make a rash decision based on emotion at that time. Ultimately after much discussion and prayer we have decided to leave her in the school which she seems very happy in and we are happy with. Yes there are some negatives as some have pointed out, changing administration, teacher turnover and larger class size. However there is a lot going right at this school too: Catholic Education is visibly integrated into various aspects of the school (i.e. curriculum, weekly mass, and environment) The teachers are caring, hard working, and effective. Environment is safe, warm and family like. The parents here do care and are very involved in the school.....Recently I have spoken to a lot of parents and teachers from many different schools and have come to the conclusion that all schools seem to have their own set of issues and drama. What matters most is that my daughter is in a Catholic, safe, and caring environment where she is given an opportunity to learn.

Very poorly run, our child has been there 3 years and has had 5 teachers. They are looking for a new principal which will be the 4th in our time there. Stay away there are better options. There is a lot of favoritism and the school caters to those who complain.

terrible school, bad teachers, terrible parents. my review of this school was deleted at the schools request even though it did not violate greatschools guidelines. Any real review on this school gets deleted and all that is left behind are the nice or old ones!

St. Stephen Catholic School is such a wonderful place to send your children. We are fairly new and in such a short period of time watched our children grow spritually as young people and they just love their school. Our new Sisters along with our wonderful in-school priest are just "Heaven Sent"! These three role models are so wonderful with our children, and you can see how the children love them right back! The teachers are also amazing and really care about your children, and you can see that everyday. If your looking for an environment that is structured yet loving that has a wonderful academic setting, St. Stephen is the school. We look forward to many years here watching our children learn and grow.

This is a nice school. For years we were happy, but we noticed that academically it was not up to par. If you want a warm environment this is a great school, but if you are looking towards the future, of your child being successful in high school, then you must look elsewhere. My son and daughter were both behind once they left St. Stephen's. We had to send them to Mathnesium to pass Freshman math (and they both aced math in middle school). I realized that if the school is inexpensive then there is something lacking.

This is my son's 2nd year at this school and I'm very pleased with his experience thus far. His class last year (3 year olds) seemed to really bond together. They were a nice group of kids. I've been impressed with the emphasis placed on treating each other well. My son hasn't had any negative experiences with his classmates, which is amazing compared to some of the horror stories I've heard from friends with 3 and 4 year olds. The new principal this year has really impressed me. She seems to be very on top of things, willing to listen to parents, and focused on promoting a safe, bully-free environment for our kids. My son's teachers and aides have been very good. I'm pleased with the amount of religious instruction he receives. My 4 year old regularly leads the family prayer at dinner and has learned to recite common prayers and create his own. I have heard from other parents that they were concerned with the number of students in a class, but I haven't had concerns about it. The classroom discipline from the teachers has been very strong so far and I feel that creates an environment for learning much more so than the number of kids.

This is my son's second year at St. Stephen's. I signed him up for St. Stephen's because I was hoping I'd have teacher's who really cared about him as a person and a student - and that is just what we found. He is doing excellent with his beginning reading and math skills, learning things adults don't know in science and has come home teaching us about forgiveness, God and "his favorite character" Jesus. It's just a wonderful, loving school. I am excited to have my second son enroll next year as well!

We have been at St. Stephen for 4 years now and are very happy with our children's growth both academically and spiritually. The teachers are exceptional and strive to challenge their students to their full potential. Having two sisters and a priest on site is also a blessing. Our children are so happy at this school!

Love this school....has made several big improvements within the last year. The presence of an on-school priest, as well as two Religious sisters, is priceless. The benefit to the school children is tremendous. The school is very supportive of the children. The new principal is very involved and supportive of both teachers and kids. Administration is fair and supportive. Teachers quality is excellent.

A caholic education and invironment is pricless. This school has that. My kids have been at St Stephens for several years. They have caring teachers who provide a sound education and disapline and dedication that you don't find at public schools. I am blessed that I have the oppertunity to send my kids to this school.

I absolutely LOVE - LOVE St. Stephens. My kids have been there since early childhood classes from the age of 3.. the teachers are great and the church is very involved and the children adore Father Bill. I have 2 kids and they feel the same way!! We've been there for 5 years now.

I would never think of sending my children anywhere else! I think their standards are high and it shows in the level of education that my 3 kids get. I think parent envolvement is also important and St Stephen's finds a way to get even the working parent involved.

Great school. Caring and open. The teachers and administration listen and support their students. They remind me of a 1970's public school with additional religious concentration.

The facilities are shabby and in desperate need of expansion. It is obvious fees and tuition collected are not put into the school. The class ratios are ridiculous for private!

The administration runs the school like a dictatorship, not welcoming parental opinions or concerns. It seems like their bottom-line is exactly that! Classes are organized to cut cost and the ratios are too high. We are not re-registering next year!

Administration has an open door policy and listens to all parents who go with concerns. Decisions are made always keeping the students needs in mind. Parents who love to gossip at parties, and not go to the school with their concerns, are rarely happy. Teachers are high quality and always willing to go above and beyond to help students.

Great school, the teachers are the best! In business, quality salemen are your best asset. It does no good to have the best product in the world if you cannot sell it. These teachers sell it! They really care and it shows. Great Job.

As you read the glowing remarks, take note. They were all written within a week of each other. The adminstration is on its last leg and desperately attempting to up the school's rating and standing. ITBS scores are among the lowest in the diocese - ask for them see how willing they are to reveal the results. The facilities are in need of expansion. Your best bet is to tour surrounding schools and compare the standards for yourself. Remember it is as easy to believe all you read as it is to eat all you see!

After having my children at St. Stephen from early childhood through middle school, I think I have a very good understanding of what an exceptional school is. The teachers and staff are very hardworking and caring. I have personally found the administration to have an open door policy. Every time I have expressed a concern, a plan has been put in place to address it. It is a caring, safe, Christian enviroment that excels academically.

My daughter has been going to St. Stephen Catholic School for 6 years and the teachers have been consistently excellent. My daughter enjoys school, her teachers and friends. My son is now in his 2nd year of preschool and loves it also. We've made great friends with similar family values. While it is a growing school, the administration is open to feedback from parents.

I am a parent at St. Stephens and I have been very pleased with the school. My child loves going to school everyday. The teachers there are wonderful and go above all expectations. The one negative that I have is the administration. I do not think that they are involved enough with the school and really listen to parents concerns. I have seen administration confront a parent of the school who has been there for over 6 years in front of the their children, the other students, teachers and parents about a minor issue. I wish the school had stronger administration that more approachable dependable and involved.

The academic standards are amoung the highest I've seen. I am impressed with the teacher commitment and drive for excellence. Focus on educating the whole child, spiritually as well as academically. Would love to see a new gym/ lunch area, but understand they are still growing...new school. My children thoroughly enjoy this school.

The parent envolvement and most teachers at this school is great. Thats about it. There is no lunch program, the kids eat in the hall. There is not enough room at the school for the students, they are building a church there but need to build out more of the school. The leadership is lacking. I think with new folks at the top this school could turn around.

Choosing a school is a difficult decsion. Upon visiting SSCS, we were so impressed with the level of commitment from the principal, teachers, parents and students. My children have attended for several years. This school is dedicated to putting the students learning needs first. It does not matter if your child struggles, is gifted or average, teachers go out of there way to ensure your child receives exactly what they need. Any parent who disagrees was there for a different reason.

The teachers at SSCS care so deeply for the children that are entrusted into our care that we go above and beyond what is expected of us. We stay late, come in early, and spend time on the weekends devoted to creating an optimal learning environment for our students. The parents are a wonderful support and those who are at SSCS are committed to seeing children reach their fullest academic potential.

My child attended SSCS since EC3 and developed significant, lasting relationships with classmates as well as their parents; the families are committed and outstanding. The administration is significantly lacking - leadership to grow this school is simply not there. The turnover of families and staff is atrocious. The administration constanly tries to 'make due' and does not aspire to greatness. With heavy hearts we removed our child to place in another Catholic School. At this time, I would not recommend SSCS to anyone.

I worked as a teacher at the school and I absolutely would put my child in this school even though I no longer teach there. The dedication to student learning is exceptional. Yes, the expectations for teachers are high, but as a parent, don't you want a teacher that goes above and beyond just showing up every day? The pricipal goes out of her way to make sure teachers have what they need to be successful at putting student learning first.

The education my child has received at the school is amazing! The atmosphere that has been created for optimal learning shines through from the minute you walk into the building. The teachers go way above and beyond what is expected of them. The sense of community is amazing and the principal always has an open door policy to any parent who has an issue or complaint. All the negative reviews you are reading are parents who just did not get their way. If you want a school where the children are put first, this is the place!

The amount of teacher, staff and student turnover at SSCS says it all about the leadership of the school. The parents, families and kids are great, but the principal is incompetent, unprofessional and accountable to nobody. Save yourself $3,500 a year and send your kid to a public school!

The teachers at this school are amazing. They go way beyond what is required. My daughter's teacher set up a tutoring session after school on her own time for kids that needed extra help in math. The reading resource teacher that helps all the students that need extra help in reading is excellent. There is such a sense of family in this school. There is a lot of parent involvement as well.

I am entering my third year with my children enrolled at SSCS. Overall, I have been pleased with the caring that the teachers and staff have shown my children, but I feel like the school is growing faster than the infrastructure can accomodate. Children eating lunch in the halls, the frequent rearranging of classrooms, and the class sizes are concerning to me. I have been very displeased with the administration, and I feel that the principal is not concerned with the interests of parents. The curriculum was not challenging to either of my children, and it included very time comsuming homework that seemed like busy work to me and my children. Despite these concerns, we are returning so that my children will be attending school as part of the St. Stephen Catholic Church parish, surrounded by their catholic friends and immersed in their faith at school.

In my experience the principal at St. Stephen Catholic School would only give me lip service when I expressed my concerns about my child s education and treatment in school, as well as the general management of the school and their policies, but I was never able to get anything more from her; my concerns would go unresolved. This was extremely frustrating. This was especially exasperating when I was trying to address the fact that my child was not being sufficiently challenged in her classes. For these reasons, I have decided that my child will not be returning to St. Stephen s this coming school year.

June 29, 2009
This past school year was a horrible experience for myself and my child; needless to say, we are not returning for the new school year. This is partly due to the lack of a true gifted program (my child went through the entire school year w/o being challenged and was often bored because of this fact) but mainly due to the unresponsiveness of the schools administration to parent concerns.

We have found the school to be very attentive to our child s education. The teachers are caring and very competent. The classes are learning at a grade to a grade and a half ahead of the public schools. It is challenging and at times I feel a little too far ahead. Homework can be daunting. But they have been working at being a little more reasonable. From some of the reviews I see that parents complained about class size. My daughter s is 25. We find that to be the norm for the private schools we looked at. As far as the lunch, it is the same at all schools. It could be healthier. All schools have some negatives but I found that most of the negatives I read here are not what is actually found at this school. Overall we love this school.

This school used to be a good school a few years ago but some changes in administration have made it terrible. The class sizes are very poor(look it up) and they have a lot of dependence on unqualified volunteers. The school is not compassionate to the parents as they so openly suggest and seem conceded that the catholic name should somehow make there school better-what a terrible self proclaimed sense of entitlement. I removed both my children from this school and sent to alternate schools where they have flourished and enjoyed being away the St Stephen's school. They do not treat the needing children well and there curriculum is behind. It is quite sad that a catholic school is so poorly managed. We gave it a fair shot but if the administration is bad what can you do- I say go somewhere else and be glad to stay away from here.

Classes are oversized 31 kids to a classroom, one teacher. Most teacher I've run into are good teachers however classes sizes are too big for even the most effective teacher to be successful Not supportive towards children who need help either on the gifted or below average. Alot of supplemental teaching is expected from teh parents to either do or provide. Cafeteria food is lacking and very much the same every month, mostly junk food pizza, chicken fingers etc.

Found the principal leadership to be lacking and difficult to rely upon. Several of the teachers are great but curriculum not structured properly to help students outside the 'average'. Class size big draw back - large. No gym or cafeteria. But think they are working on this. We removed our children for alternate private school and have been thrilled ever since!
