My daughter has been in Cannella since Kindergarten and is now in 5th grade. She's an A/B honor roll, has had excellent teachers (some more awesome than others) but definitely Cannella is an inspiration in the Hillsborough School System. Until recently, I have been inspired by the way Administration performed. With the retirement of the previous principal, things have changed for, in my opinion, not the better. Some teachers and parents like the new principal... some don't. I personally do not. I am trying to deal with the changes as it is my daughter's last year there. She has an awesome 5th grade teacher and she still loves Cannella as do I. I just hope the new principal (who comes from Pinellas btw) just puts on the brakes and doesn't make too many changes at once.
My daughter completd 5th gr this yr, and I agree with the previous parent that administration has slipped the last several yrs. The principal her first few yrs there was great. The last 2 not so impressed.
im in 5th grade now and cannella has awesome teachers some of the kids are annoying but he school and teachers are great!!!!! go there
Ok except for children with special needs. Some wonderful regular classroom teachers and the speech therapists aere awesome. Not impressed with administration. Quality has slipped last couple of years.
Cannella is an excellent school. My daughter Lynette went to Cannella all her elementary years (1992-1997). And I loved it. The teachers were great and all the personnel. The discipline and the education that she received are a life time assett. Now my 2 boys Alex(10yrs old) and Angel(7yrs) are also attending. And their teachers are Awesome and the personnel, too. The education and the discipline that my children have received makes Cannella an 'Outstanding School'. Sincerely, Lina Martinez
Last year was my son's first year in school..kindergarten...his teacher mrs. bayliss was awesome. she helped my son develope is first line of defense in education. he is now in the 1st grade. cannella is by far the best!
Last year was my daughters first year in school.. her teach was amazining..She learned so much and her reading has astonished me, but. I still believe a kid needs to be a kid.. Lunch room needs to be a lunch room and not a classroom, kids should beable to talk with out a lunch lady and her mega phone yelling all the time.. I know this, cuz I voluntered once a week. My child was tested and said she needed speech.. I thought, okay.. Well, I am an involved parent tried to meet 2x with the speech teacher and she never showed up.. no one knew where she was.. was suppose to send me weekly reports. I never saw one. IHopefully this year will prove differently.
This is a great school. There is not much parent envolvment, but that only says more about what the principal and her staff are doing. The parents that are involved work very hard and are very dedicated.
Cannella's new principal cares very much about her students. The parents are not as involved as they should be mostly because most do work full time. The majority of the teachers care very much as well. I am impressed with the care taken to assure the students do well
Excellent school and excellent teachers. My daughter just completed her Kindergarten. I was completely taken aback to see how fast my daughter started reading from simple letters to a whole chapter within a short span of time. Thanks to accelerated reading programs and also to wonderful staff. Apart from English, other aspects like color, shape and size recognition also is worth mentioning. Math is also given due importance. My daughter is now able to do most of the two digit number addition and subtraction without actually writing it down. Coin recognition and summing of coins was another achievement she had from this school. The PTA meeting held in the school helped us (parents) in giving a right direction to meeting the desired goals. I am happy that my daughter was able to attend one of the best schools in Florida without spending too much.
