I have been in this school district since 1992. My youngest son now age 31 went to Cannella. I was not happy with the school then. Over the years things changed. I have a 9 year old that goes to Cannella. The Principal Rachel Walters has not regard for parents. She makes you feel like you are not welcome at the school. The teachers there are great but believe me most have a bone to pick with this principal. I feel that this principal has brought the moral of most of the teachers down. I have a couple more years to go in this school and I would love to see this principal replaced so that Cannella can become an A school again.
Cannella is a school which has a good PTA; however, the principle is not friendly and does not appear in my opinion to be very involved in the school in terms of being involved with the parents. I like my daughters Kindergarten teacher; however, she is out a lot an never on time. I will be glad once this year is over so I can move my daugther out.
I have been to this school it is fun and the teachers and staff are nice and they work hard just to help children learn and have fun I all my teachers alot and I always had A/B honor roll no madder how hard I work the teachers help me and I am just a kid but I know more than my parents about the school because I was there and I know that I am kid but trust me the school , teachers , and staff are amazing and I wish I didn't grow up and stay there .
My daughter has been in Cannella since Kindergarten and is now in 5th grade. She's an A/B honor roll, has had excellent teachers (some more awesome than others) but definitely Cannella is an inspiration in the Hillsborough School System. Until recently, I have been inspired by the way Administration performed. With the retirement of the previous principal, things have changed for, in my opinion, not the better. Some teachers and parents like the new principal... some don't. I personally do not. I am trying to deal with the changes as it is my daughter's last year there. She has an awesome 5th grade teacher and she still loves Cannella as do I. I just hope the new principal (who comes from Pinellas btw) just puts on the brakes and doesn't make too many changes at once.
My daughter completd 5th gr this yr, and I agree with the previous parent that administration has slipped the last several yrs. The principal her first few yrs there was great. The last 2 not so impressed.
im in 5th grade now and cannella has awesome teachers some of the kids are annoying but he school and teachers are great!!!!! go there
Ok except for children with special needs. Some wonderful regular classroom teachers and the speech therapists aere awesome. Not impressed with administration. Quality has slipped last couple of years.
Cannella is an excellent school. My daughter Lynette went to Cannella all her elementary years (1992-1997). And I loved it. The teachers were great and all the personnel. The discipline and the education that she received are a life time assett. Now my 2 boys Alex(10yrs old) and Angel(7yrs) are also attending. And their teachers are Awesome and the personnel, too. The education and the discipline that my children have received makes Cannella an 'Outstanding School'. Sincerely, Lina Martinez
Last year was my son's first year in school..kindergarten...his teacher mrs. bayliss was awesome. she helped my son develope is first line of defense in education. he is now in the 1st grade. cannella is by far the best!
Last year was my daughters first year in school.. her teach was amazining..She learned so much and her reading has astonished me, but. I still believe a kid needs to be a kid.. Lunch room needs to be a lunch room and not a classroom, kids should beable to talk with out a lunch lady and her mega phone yelling all the time.. I know this, cuz I voluntered once a week. My child was tested and said she needed speech.. I thought, okay.. Well, I am an involved parent tried to meet 2x with the speech teacher and she never showed up.. no one knew where she was.. was suppose to send me weekly reports. I never saw one. IHopefully this year will prove differently.
This is a great school. There is not much parent envolvment, but that only says more about what the principal and her staff are doing. The parents that are involved work very hard and are very dedicated.
Cannella's new principal cares very much about her students. The parents are not as involved as they should be mostly because most do work full time. The majority of the teachers care very much as well. I am impressed with the care taken to assure the students do well
Excellent school and excellent teachers. My daughter just completed her Kindergarten. I was completely taken aback to see how fast my daughter started reading from simple letters to a whole chapter within a short span of time. Thanks to accelerated reading programs and also to wonderful staff. Apart from English, other aspects like color, shape and size recognition also is worth mentioning. Math is also given due importance. My daughter is now able to do most of the two digit number addition and subtraction without actually writing it down. Coin recognition and summing of coins was another achievement she had from this school. The PTA meeting held in the school helped us (parents) in giving a right direction to meeting the desired goals. I am happy that my daughter was able to attend one of the best schools in Florida without spending too much.
The School is okay..I think too much pressure is place on children now a days. Some teachers are way to disorganized and not cleared on their expectations of a child.
As a non-custodial parent living in Texas, my visits during the school year have impressed me with Cannella from the office staff to administration and teaching staff, as well as, lunch room staff and volunteers. I would highly recommend to any parent(s) with elementary school aged childern make a real effort to locate within the Cannella district.
Canella is a great school. I feel that my children receive a quality education well above the standards in the AL School System in which they started. The teachers encourage parental involvement & the volunteering parents provide info to other parents on available programs, volunteer work, etc. A+
Just moved here from another state, but Cannella has been great so far. Beautiful clean school. The one thing I noticed is they are behind my children's level in math and reading, from the state of SC. I would have never expected that from a Florida school. However I feel the teachers are aware of it and are working to give extra attention to my children. That individual attention is what makes this school good.
In my experience this is a great school. I will recomended to any other parent that is looking for a good elementary school.
The staff is outstanding. The Cannella experience is pure Excellence! Our children receive a quality education, A+ for parental involvement as well as awesome teacher/parent school/home relationship.
