Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My child just started 1st grade this year at D.P. and I have already noticed some weirdness in e-mails interactions with the teacher. This week I went there for my first volunteering and I was so upset. The teacher yelled at the children the entire time I was there. I was so sad when I left, I almost cried. You expect a child bullying another child, not their teacher!

We LOVED our Kindergarten teacher here, Mrs. Lee. She was excellent in all aspects. But now in first grade we have been really disappointed. It seems that the curriculum is only placing ALL emphasis on FCAT performance than providing a solid education that will allow these students to compete throughout their lives. I'm not going o even mention the "non-existent" principal with NO leadership whatsoever.

I saw someone wrote they are impressed with the cleanliness of the school. Did you know children were getting sick because of the bacteria because of the water damage? With kids getting sick, they had to "redo" part of the school. Communication is poor at the school, information gets out last minute if it does get out at all. Many safety concerns with the school as there were holes in the play area/playground that kids were falling in and getting fractured ankles and also police were called when several kids heard adults yelling in the bushes. Notice how you never see the principal, Mrs. Porebski at the outside school functions? Lots of bullying at this school and nothing is done on the principal's part, teacher or guidance counselor. The principal is more concerned with her physical appearance than what goes on at the school. HOST program is poor too. Kids just run around the cafeteria.

My ten year old daughter (5th grader) NYC. Deer Park has made the transition wonderful. The teachers and administration are very communicative, and the curriculum is challenging yet provides students with all the necessary tools for success! Thank you!

My daughter will be starting 1st grade this year @ Deer Park. She loved her kindergarten teacher and class but I was less than impressed with the principal and the overall running of the school. There is very little communication with the parents and what does come is very late/last minute. The principal has no leadership skills and does not begin to know how to talk to parents. She seems more concerned with herself than the students. We never saw her at any school function. The school also seems overcrowded as they were struggling to find additional classrooms last year. Everyone talks about what a great school, but I'm not seeing it.

My daughter completed her kindergarten year here @ deer park & she absolutely Loved it! Ms.Febre & Ms.Henry were amazing!! Very involved with their students & attentive to each students individual needs. I loved that they pay close attention to each students strengths & weaknesses & use that information to help them maximize their learning abilities. My child finished kindergarten as 1 of the top students in her class & reading @ a 2nd grade reading level. Staff members are very friendly & always helpful. I couldn't tell you how many times I'd be on campus & a staff member would approach me to tell me how well my child was doing. The staff knows their students even though they're not in their class & that alone says a lot to how attentive they are. This school really cares about their students & ensuring that they progress in ALL areas. We moved due to work related reasons & I am sad to have to withdraw her from Deer Park. I highly recommend Deer Park to anyone considering or new to the area.

The teachers at the school are top notch. The school is in a very good location. The only major issue is that the principal lacks good leadership skills and it does bring the quality down. WIth at new principal I would I would rate it a 4-5.

Love this school! My son was at a private school in South Africa before we moved to the US and he was doing really well so I was quite worried to uproot him but he has settled so well and absolutely adores school! He is in first grade and his teacher, Mrs Kasper, has been fantastic.

We were happy the first few years, here. But this year our teacher is very hands-off and the parents from our classroom feel out of the loop. The guidance department has been slow to respond or take action on several requests and I feel like the school constantly has a hand out for money from the parents. The new homes and apartments in our district have caused some overcrowding-especially in the lower grades. The PE and music teachers are great and the Library staff is, too. There are MANY wonderful teachers at this school. Thankfully, my child is a self-starter and really enjoys school. Otherwise, we would not be doing as well, here.

The test scores alone prove that the quality of education has gone down at this school. There are a few good teachers, but the majority are wet behind the ears and would make better baby sitters than educators. They are proof that teaching is not for everyone. They seem unable to get the best out of the students. Unlike her predecessor, the new principal seems relatively non-existent. My child has been a straight-A student at this school for years, but it seems like the quality of education at Deer Park has gone down. More emphasis is placed on FCAT performance than providing a solid education that will allow these students to compete globally.

Been at this school for 9 months now after attending an amazing school in the North. Despite what I've always believed, you can get a great education in FL. The teachers and faculty I've met are amazing. Great diversity without anyone feeling odd. Just attended an amazing MATH night where kids LOVED to do math.

Great, safe school with encouraging, friendly teachers, staff and PTA. Promotes reading and writing competitions. Offers extra newspaper, guitar, percussion, orchestra and choir classes, and fun science-based events, but no sports (through out district). Our 5th grade daughter has been here two years and enjoys her school and friends.

Great school. We are delighted to have been able to get in through the CHOICE program. Leadership here is outstanding - some of the problems are district-based. Terrific teachers, private, nature setting. Outstanding array of extra curricular opportunities.

I am still not impressed with the academics I see in Kindergarten. The private pre-school we were in had the 4 year olds doing 1st grade work and still having fun like 4 year olds. The security and the setting are great. The teacher we have us caring, concerned, and devoted to doing a good job. They are limited because you have to teach to the lowest skill level and a state curriculum. The principal is outstanding and his attitude is reflected in about 50-75% of the team. He himself is superior and I think he REALLY TRIES to attract and retain the best he can find. The hot lunch menu is appalling with things like corn dogs, powdered sugar, red jello, hot dogs, nachos, and the like. What happened to setting an example for good nutrition? This is the district's fault, not theirs.

Great school. My daughter started kindergarden here, and we have been impressed with both the facilities and the teachers (Mrs. Patton). The principal is great, he was out in the parking lot directing traffic the first week of school, you don't see that very often. If you can afford to live in the area, Westchase has great schools all around.

Deer Park is an awesome school with an amazing staff! My children are happy and enthusiastic about going to school, and learning. Mr. Cerreta knows EVERY childs name, grade, etc. He, his teacher's, and the PTA all work wonderfully together to make this school the great success that it is. The children are pretty amazing as well!

As a parent at Deer Park for 3 years I can safely say it's the best experience we've had with our children. And we did have our children at a real private school before & pulled them out of 2nd grade there. As for the 'CEO' directing traffic- he does this so he can interact with the kids & parents every day & isn't it GREAT to be able to SEE your principal every day! He's not a remote figure that is inaccessible! The parents are welcome on campus everyday & are encouraged to be involved in both the school & the classrooms. And our principal and vice principal are always available to discuss and resolve any problems. Our teachers come from both public & private backgrounds and all tell me how wonderful their working environment is here. As parents, we feel welcome and at home at Deer Park.

I made the decision during last school year to pull my son from private school. I visited many schools in the area including the school that my son was zoned for. I decided the second I walked into Deer Park that I wanted him to attend. I school choiced him & cannot be happier. I decided to introduce myself to some of the PTA over the summer and was pleasantly surprised to have made some great friends. I was a bit nervous on the first day of school, I worried my son wouldn't adjust well & it would be hard for him at his age. (He's in 3rd grade) When I picked him up the first day, he actually thanked me. Getting up in the morning hasn't been a chore & he looks forward to school. His teachers are fantastic and I am thrilled to be a part of the family!

I am not all that impressed. Maybe I am too used to private school (preschool) yet. The people seem to first assume the kids behave badly and teach children what they can not or should not do, instead of focusing on what they can do. The teachers and VP are always telling kids, not asking kids, to do things. The afternoon pick up needs to improve. Westchase Elementary had the kids wait in the lunchroom, I heard, which I think is better. I have a great respect for the principal in his effort to be so involved. However, great organizations do not necessarily have their 'CEOs' directing traffic 1-2 hours of their days.

This school is excellent! I have had several parents tell me they pulled their children out of private education because Deer Park has a superior campus, teachers, and staff. The staff works with the families to find the right teaching style/teacher for the children. I feel there is plenty of parental involvement, but then again, you only get out what you put into it. Heck, there is even a dad's club that has at least one dad and kid event every month! The only issue I have with the school is inadequate parking, but that is on the district not the school. Contrary to a previous review there are benches around the campus (in fairness, that review was posted prior to the installation of said benches as the school had only been open for a few months).

Deer Park is hands-down one of the best public schools in the state. The principal is a dynamo - I can't say enough about his enthusiasm, visibility, availability to the parents, and genuine interest in the sucess and well-being of our kids. Parents love him, teachers love him, and the students treat him like a rock star. The best thing about Deer Park is Principal Cerreta's mission to make this a COMMUNITY. He has tasked the PTA with getting as much family involvement as possible, and encorages relationships with neighborhood business as well. The quality of the teachers is great, the options for extra-curricular activities are varied, and the campus is beautiful. We love Deer Park - it's the BEST!

Absolutely fabulous. I pulled my children out of private school to go to Deer Park and I have never looked back! It is beyond expectations with wonderful teachers, huge parent participation and an extroadinary administration. And the principal...what can I say except that he is top notch. Fantastic school. Best school is the state if not one of the best in the nation.

Trust me, this is a GREAT school. The principal is amazing...you'll see him every single day on campus. The assistant Principal is just as great. There isn't a student at the school they both don't know. Security is handled well, with a complete lockdown after the morning bell, and a computerized system to sign-in and check any and all visitors/volunteers at the school. The classrooms are nicely sized, and there is a beautiful courtyard with benches in the middle of the school. We have a great playground with small picnic tables to eat at, and soon we'll have a covered court to protect our kids from the sun during PE. Our staff, from front office to teachers to custodians are great people with a wonderful dedication to our students. Also, parent involvement is welcomed and appreciated. This is just a great school!!

The PE program is only twice a week and seems a bit boring, specially for boys. Classrooms are very tiny. There are no benches around the campus and no designated pick nick tables outside to have lunch with your kids.Campus should be more secure and only accessible through the front office. Music is great and they even offer free guitar lessons. Principal,Teachers and Staff are awesome.

Im a prospective physical education teacher attending USF interning at Deer Park Elementary. For a school that has just opened I am suprised to see how good of a school it is, the principal is very good and seems to take a lot of pride in structuring a good program. The school has only one pysical education teacher, and like most Hillsborough County schools students have only two days of P.E. The instructor Mrs. Brown is very good, as she was one of the choosen by my professors as an intern to allow us to see how a good program is run. She has taught for about 20 years. She does not devote time to game play such as dodgeball and kickball, instead she developes skills in locomotor areas like throwing, hopping, kicking, running etc. She also runs an after school program called HOST and has a 'jump rope' team.

Excellent school. Very organized adminstration & involved principal. You see him out and about every day, helping with the drop off line, in the cafeteria & just talking with parents. Great parental involvement and a great perspective on fundraising - you won't have to get your co-workers to buy wrapping paper & junky stuff to help raise money for the school. The school also reaches out to the community and has activities, like inviting students from an economically disadvantaged school to spend a fun day at Deer Park.
