Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My daughter loved this school. They have great values and very caring teachers. I only wish this school had more funding since it is pretty old andand needs some updating.

My son is doing well here, he came from out of state and is repeating 3rd grade. His teacher quite halfway through the year but his new teacher is better than the last. He had a problem with a kid in his class and was interviewed by the school about the situation and it was resolved. One thing I don't like is the lower grades have lunch too early. My son has lunch at 10:30 in the morning and school doesn't let out until 2:15. He is very hungry at the end of the day.

I think this school so far is wonderful. My son just started kindergarten this year and he loves his teacher Ms.Stone. He has learned so much and is doing very well. Everyday is something new and exciting for him. Every morning I walk him to the cafeteria for breakfast. There is a teacher in every hall. They say good morning when they see us, and when we leave they say have a nice day. They are all so positive. They try to encourage every child to eat breakfast. There are also bus patrols and staff from the school every morning and afternoon helping car riders. This is an A+ School in my opinion

This school is wonderful. Staff is really helpful. My children love this school. Parent involvement needs to increase. The newsletters are informative, and sent in a timely manner.

I agree that Folsom has gone down over the last several years with their leadership team and quality of education that the children get. I had to pull my children out of the school two years ago and now they are doin much better in a magnet school.

Folsom has declined so much over the years. The current leadership is aweful. Most of the communications from the school have so many errors you would think that the kids were sending them. Wrong dates or wrong days on almost all of them, especially with the after school program.

My child transferred here from a private school and we were somewhat leary of moving her to a public school. But my child's teachers are awesome and she has a good time each day in class. Folsom is either back to an A rated school now or they are/were very close, I can't recall. The school meets my expectations and seems to provide a safe educational environment.

Folsom is very good. It is very interactive with the students and offers a wide range of activities to supplement classroom work. For instance, this Earth Day, my son's class went out to the spacious field behind the school and planted a new tree that will one day be as tall as the school. Also, there are family nights that promote fun in a safe environments with hay rides, dunking coach in the water tank, etc. There are Science and Math nights also that encourage ideas to promote learning at home.

Folsom has dropped from an A grade school approximately 3 years ago to a C.The new principal came in with an ego and immediately asserted herself as the person in charge and discontinued all of the programs formerly established by her predecessor. It's clear she intended to 'make her mark'. The school grade immediately fell. The majority of the best teachers either retired or moved to other schools, parent involvement declined drastically, the head of the PTA resigned, and our children lost motivation to work as hard as they had been. The second principal has been replaced after roughly a year and a half and the verdict is still pending on her performance.

Folsom Elementary has extended to the community and held wonderful family nights to encourage involvement. I have my son at this school and would say that it is an acceptable place to learn. Some of the teachers are inspiring and the specials departments really enhance the experience. While I like the school, the teachers are mediocre. I wish there was more communication of what is being taught on a day by day basis. Because this school's focus is to bring up the score from last year, they are teaching to the test. On the other hand, I do see some teachers out there, using teaching methods that really get students motivated.

My son has been at Folsom for 2 years. Only in the last 2 months have I seen anything to keep us around. I am trying to see the good, but have trouble doing so. A few of my son's friends have transferred or are now being homeschooled due to similar frustrations as we have had. The only thing that keeps us there is we just got a new Principal and V.P along with the resignation of the PTA president. Her PTA did nothing in terms of engaging parents' help. It is now March 2004 so I will see what happens between now and the end of the school year. If it doesn't improve, Folsom will be losing yet another family.
