this is my sons 1st and last year at this school. I don't like it. I agree with the student assessment about this school. I don't care for the administration or the "teachers". I am currently looking for another school for my child. I would not recommend this school to any one I know. This school should loose it charter. Its a wanna be school. They need a overhaul. I don't agree with there discipline code. I wish i could talk to someone to tell them just what the administration is doing wrong. I have talked to two administrators about my concerns, and at this point it like talking to a wall. Boys will be boys or they tell your child "Don't run home and tell your momma/daddy everything that's going on here". What are you trying to tell my son do? Teaching a kid not to tell if they are being hurt? That's why we have these shootings at schools. I told my son the heck with that I want to know and YES, I will go confront ANY teacher, administrator or board member when it comes to mines EVERYDAY. This school needs a State take over. I am so sorry to have enrolled my son at this school. The end of the school year cant come soon enough for this parent!
I am a teacher at Fulton Leadership Academy and I love it. I've taught several years a public school in the Metro Atlanta Area and I've also taught several years at a private school in the Metro Atlanta Area. You'll be hard pressed to find another school as good as this one, public or private. The administration is very easy to talk to. Parents, teachers, and even students can talk to a principle and be certain that their concerns will be looked into. There is a big emphasis on honesty, respect, and following the rules. Parents that think that breaking a few rules isn't a big deal won't like this school. Parents that want their children to be free to do what ever they want won't like this school. Discipline is handled in a very prompt manner. The academics are great. This is one of the few places where I don't question the ability of some of my colleagues. Everyone knows their content and everyone cares about their students getting the content. We don't "fix" kids. We try to help guide them down the path to their success, but we can't do it alone. Parents are a child's primary teacher. We need parents to be on the same page as us. If that is you, you should join us.
Fulton Leadership Academy had, potential. Key word ''HAD.'' This school shows favortism in every aspect. If one student were to get in trouble and they didn't play sports then they would be suspended and their parents would be notified. The teachers also show favortism. Some do not but most do. The academics is a tad bit better than what you could find at most public schools but its not amazing. I wish the school had a different way of disciplining. The system that the school uses is very childish and has no right to be used in an classroom enviorment. I'm not saying the school is terrible because like all schools FLA has its problems. I enjoy most of the activities we do there are quite entertaining and insiteful, but the childish discipline and the respector of persons attitude leads me to believe that FLA isn't all its cracked up to be!!!!
This school has the potential to be a great school. Key word is potential. They have some good programs that challenge the scholars and some very good teachers who can really challenge the scholars. However they do have some things that could use some improvement. First they need their own campus. They do have some administrative issues as well other things needed to be added such as fine arts for the students. The vision is there to make the school great but the small issue can become bigger if not addressed. That boils down to leadership which is to be questioned. Seems as if the focus is on how the school is perceived from people on the outside more than the scholars and parents that are there. Athletics is a different story.
FLA is a wonderful school. My son is also a scholar and an athlete at FLA. I did the research before I enrolled my son. The data for single gender classrooms will amaze you. I am satisfied with all of my sons teachers. Look at the test scores and you will know that the teachers at FLA are well qualified to teach all students. Apparently the student below must be one of thoses few that cannot be reached sometimes. FLA is not for everyone, but it is for my child. My son will finish out his school years at FLA as long as the school gets a facility that will have athletic facilities for the scholars. That would be the only reason my son would leave FLA. There is a waiting list of parents trying to become a part of FLA. If you are one of the lucky few to enter , be prepared to work hard as a parent, require greatness from your son, and support the teachers and administration. However, FLA's board of directors need to do a better job of helping raise money for the school as oppose of the faculity and parents putting in all the hard work. Board of directors, you will loose your core students if you do not get us in a larger facility.
To the "student" who entered the previous post, if you are not satisfied with FLA, it is okay to voice your opinion. Please don't, however, place untrue information on the web. The coach saw an altercation between two scholars and did the right thing by intervening. He grabbed the scholar who was on top of the other and removed him. The scholar hit the table and was unharmed. No coach on the staff would "slam" a scholar. The school is going through times where young males are struggling with the idea of not having females at the school and are also strugglng to get along with each other. The school does have a uniform policy. FLA is trying to set the example of leadership in the community. If a person in the military did not adhere to the uniform regulations set by government, he would be removed. This school is no exception. Scholars have tried to "buck" the system by wearing what they want, but this will not be tolerated. So, the principal is doing the right thing. Also, every teacher of the core subjects at FLA are highly certified instructors.
This is the worst school ever. I recommend that you do not let your child go to this school. I am a student here and i think that out of all the teachers, only two of them in the 7th grade curriculum have knowledge on the topic and have the ability to enforce discipline. The coaches are rude and let students get into fights. The principal is rude and calls parents over the weirdest things. He suspended other kids because they had on white shoes??? I do nt think this school should be recognized for anything. I am a very different child and so are the others at this school. I do not think they have what it takes to become a good school. The counselor at the school threatened to suspend anyone who came to her with issue because she did not care. Those were her exact word. The Coach Slammed a boy into a table because he got into a fight. He had no right to do that. This school was horrible!!!
This school is GREAT! This school is a BLESSING! I am a DEDICATED and ACTIVE parent of a 7th grader. My son is a scholar/athlete whose academics is forced to the forefront from all of the people who connect to him. I uphold it, however; Fulton Leadership Academy upholds it equally and it makes molding my son into the citizen that the world needs him to be. My son knows that being in this environment has fostered his pure growth and development without him worrying about having to be macho or worry about the effects of young ladies on his character and developement.
Awesome school with GREAT principal leadership and teacher participation. Although, the students dislike the fact it is an all boy school, they seem to enjoy themselves.
