I am a former student of Clarkston High School. I would first like to start off by saying that this school has a few select teachers that truly love to teach and are there to help you learn, they assist excellently. The staff, however is a completely different story. Many staff members, assistants, secretaries etc. are fouled-mouth and unproffesional, as well as the other majority of teachers. It is not a comfortable safe environment for everyone, many of the students are disrespectful as well, as well as loud and just plain rude. The receptionist for the school does not talk eloquently and is not very friendly, the counseling office is always on about 100 different schedules not knowing how to work together to help students, parents, and visitors. Itrust me everyone has a different story, but mine happens to be negative. I am so glad I'm done with it! Overall, if you are someone who is respectful, study and do your work, you will do fine, there is no need to worry, just focus on achieveing what you came there to do despite the chaotic environment.

CHs is not a bad school only the kids are bad they are mostly racist and don't care about education and skip school or class don't blame the teachers I slack off at times but I learn enough from the teachers

This is one of the worst schools ever. The teachers are basically there to get paid for doing nothing. There is absolutely no motivation in this school system. Majority of the students here are gang affiliated and the administrators are very rude and conniving. Transferring out of this school was the best choice ive ever made. The teachers and administrators are to blame because they gave up a long time ago on the students and these students lack the support and resources many schools around the nation have. Dont ever send your child here!

Clarkson high school is not a very good school academic wise, but the teachers are not to blame. Some students just dont care and doesnt realize the importants of an education. Administrators only seems to care about making ayp and getting off of the needs improvement list, but they are very friendly. Well at least some of them. I would reccomend your child to go there only if he or she has trouble academic wise because most of the classes are easy to pass.

I am a student here at clarkston high school. I can honestly say that most of the schools faculty is doing their best to help us strive for exellence. this may not be the best school in the dekalb county area, but you cant say their not trying

Clarkston High School's primary flaw is that the administrators are careless, and a majority of the students are careless. However, there are several students who actually strive for the best. I have been here for two years, and because i took advanced classes and AP courses, i didn't have to face the chaos of indifference. There are teachers who really care though, but without sufficient student motivation, Clarkston High School will never meet AYP, and will remain on the D-list in Dekalb

This school may not be the best. And it's just some kids who just don't want to learn. That's the parent's fault, not the teacher's. The parents should have done something about their son/daughter. As a current student; I can tell you, if you're determined and stay away from certain crowds, the school is great. The teachers are the best; can't say so for the administrators though. The teachers are extremely hardworking and they're reaaally friendly, they want you to pass; but it's hard for them if certain students don't want to. Which is why there are advanced classes. If you were in advanced classes; then you wouldn't be complaining.

While there are teachers in the building who do not play by the book and push our kids, there are many of us (mostly new) who are constantly pushing and raising the bar. We are definitely NOT where we want or need to be. However, there are many of us who are working long hours to get us there. It takes time and lots of dedication on the parts of teachers, students, parents, and administration to work out the difficulties. We can do it.

I feel as if this school is terrible. The teachers are pretty good, but it's the students lack of desire to learn that is the problem. Also, the principle seems to be focused on punishing the students. Suspension is not what we need, if anything, most of us need to be in school as much as possible. I feel that if you get the academics right first, then everyone will start carrying themselves with more dignity, and start behaving more like we're expected to. But I'll go ahead and say that I don't recomend this school to anyone who cares about their education. I really don't want to put Clarkston High School on my college application.

My son goes to this school and he says it is the best school ever been to. He say the student are nice he play football for the high school team. And he says the teacher are really nice.

I think some of the teachers are pretty awesome. As a student, I have noticed how much effort the teachers put in, sometimes going out of their way. But I think the problem is the students who don't want to learn. They don't care. And there are some teachers who don't care at all.

Leadership is completely out of touch with the students needs. Although there are many excellent teachers, some feel they can get away with teaching 4 days a week and give the children Friday off. The administration makes no effort to embrace diversity although almost half the students body is of foreign decent.The teachers are always complaining about lack of materials to do their work.

There is no interest taken in the kids going to the next level in life. Parents need to take a more active role in the education not being provided to there students attending this school. The administrative leadership if far removed from the activities of the school counselors who are not meeting with students on a regular basis to assure they are placed in classes that will assist them with the college prep track they selected. There is generally no communication between teachers and parents until initiated by the parent. There appears to be no one interceding on behalf of the children to notify parents before kids are in academic trouble. A school with over 1,000 students and only 20-30 PTSA members. Its as if everyone in the community, the County's School Board have just thrown this cultural diverse group of kids to the side and said, 'Whatever'.

My son also attends Clarkston and I find the teaching staff to be quite caring and willing to put in extra effort for students that are respectful and try hard. Discipline does seem to be a problem within the school and the administration does spend a good deal of time in that area. Sadly, the bottom line is too many students have discipline problems. Parents need to handle the discipline issues, but too many don't. If a parent can't get their child to behave in school what can the school do? Suspend them. In high school you either get it or you don't. I appreciate the strict discipline, it reduces the disruption in my childs learning.

I totally agree that clarkston primary focus is discipline . I have repeating ninth grader with some learning disabilities, but the only answer the teacher feel is suspension,or call the parent to remove the student from campus for the day, being a single parent, this disruption is not an answer only a band aide to the problem. the current principals are disconnected to the overall needs of the students as well as physical structure itself.

I moved here recently with my now 16 year old son and because of the district we lived in,he attented this school.Clarkston leaves a lot to be desired.It became very apparent that discipline is their main concern.Some of the teachers there that I have met are very caring,concerned individuals,however,the principal's staff was obviously disconnected from their students'real need for encouragement and support from faculty and staff.It seems there were so many students in trouble,on suspensions and in police involvement situations.Some I've seen or heard myself.My son and I have learned more about criminal terminology at this school than anywhere else.I think that's unbelievable compared to the schools my son has attended prior.Don't get me wrong,I also stand strong on discpline,having a very good son to prove it.My son did not do as well as he usually does and was very unhappy there,education is certainly not first and caring is last.
