The January 13, 2013 post really is an accurate description of the school. Unfortunately I went there for four years. When I moved on to college. I found that I was servilely behind in math and writing. Needless to say I spent one year in college trying to undo the mess they put me in. They don't have any control over the want to be thugs and when confronted they act like the school is doing perfectly fine. Don't even get me started on the administration.
I am a Student at Salem High, and my parents are trying to get me out of this school soon as possible. Even being in the advanced classes, it's still hard to learn in class. All of the students are disrespectful and never give the teachers a chance to actually TEACH! It's only my 9th grade year, and I have girls trying to fight me, for NO REASON, other than the fact that i stand up for myself. I hate this school. I though that it would get better. :? It hasnt everyone here is rachet, and just dosent care.
I currently attend Salem . I am a sophomore.. 1st thing's 1st . The ridiculous rumor "fights everyday," should stop, because here at Salem that is clearly not the case. Ifstudents are popping off at the mouth at home, without being controlled, how do you expect the teachers to be ableto control them if you cant? Here at Salem, our administrators and counselors take fights very serously. I believe that the administrators are doing the best they can do with the IRRATE students, and PARENTS' behavorial issues. Most "big fights" are caused by freshman, yet their parents are the MOST concerned. I've been in arguments, sure, i'm human, we all have, but NEVER at Salem has it blown out of proportion. If i have a problem I tell my counselors, if I need the problem solved faster, I will tell any staff member and they will handle it.. or I could get to the root of the problem immediately, i go directly to the office and request an administrator.. perferably Ms. Bloodworth or Mr. Williams . Alot of how the kids act has to do with their home-training, so to all of the parents complaining.. uhmmmmm.............*cough.cough* GO NOLES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CLASS OF 2014 ! ;)
I absoutly hate the fact that my child has to attend this school. My child can't learn anything in the classrooms because the teachers have no classroom control. Once he came home and said to me that He couldn't pay attention in class because of the other misbehaving students. So I contacted the teacher. To my disbelief he says" Yes mam I am having problems controlling my class." My son fails because they can't control their kids. This year I try to stay in touch with the teachers, Through e-mail. They hardly ever answer. They don't update grades on the i-parent Site. How are we suppossed to watch what our kids are doing? This school is horrible and nothing like it was when I went to school there.
As a parent, I think Salem High School is great. My child has attended school in other counties, but I have never experienced the amount of concern that teachers at Salem High show for the student's well being. They go over and beyond the call of duty to make sure that students learn. I have been very impressed with all of the staff that I have dealt with at the school
I am a third year student at Salem High School this year and I have a few things to say. Although the negativitey of our school has been displayed over the current years and even though we've lost great teacher due to death or resign Salem high school is the best school in Rockdale County. We, being the students, received some of the highest test scores State Ranked, out of all the other Highschools. Our new principal is not a lunatic she is a great, people just have a problem with her strict policies in order to keep us safe. Her policies help the prevention of fights or any other form of altercations. Salem can be a great place. But unfortunately we get our bad reputation because of the bad children that go here.
I am an uprising Junior at Salem high school but I've known the history of this school for the longest time... and has such a rich history and it's devastating to see the history slowly fall into pieces. This school used to have great teachers, a wonderful student body and an amazing administration staff. But ever since the second semester of my freshman year, our principal retired, teachers quit and students transferred to a different school. most students here do not know how to behave and there's more fights in this school every week than i've seen within my lifetime. There's always negative things happening on campus, and our most recently hired principal is a complete lunatic. Their 'rules' makes no complete sense... it's no wonder that many of Salem's good and well educated teachers have left or is planning on leaving.
My daughter will be starting her 2nd year at Salem unfortunately. The students here look and behave like students in an inner city ghetto. How can students who want to learn get an education in a school that 'dumbs' everything down so 'everyone' can pass?! Fighting in classrooms, disrespecting teachers- this school is a joke. It's a shame that Rockdale Co. Schools have lost their once great reputation. We are moving out of this district ASAP!
I am student at Salem High School and have been since my freshmen year. I am also a student enrolled in rigorous AP courses at Salem as well as a member of the varsity cheerleading squad at Salem High School since my freshmen year. I do not have issues in my academic classes as many other students do for the simple fact that I am enrolled in AP courses. However I know many students have problems within their 'regular' classrooms. In many of my elective classes where I am in class with a mixture of students it seems that the classrooms do not function near as well as my AP classrooms nor do the teachers have much control over the classroom. In my years at salem I have come across many teachers who simply do not care about the students or their grades.
I am a new sophmore to Salem High School. I transferred from a Dekalb County School. Salem High School is nothing like i expected it to be. There is alot of behavioral problems. Fighting and smoking occurs on a daily basis on the campus. There are many cliques and other groups to be aware of. Bullying also happens. Another thing that is not so good at Salem is the food that we eat. Pizza and fries or tator tots are on the menu EVERYDAY. The new principal complains about the fact that the vending machines have food that we don't need but what about the food that the cafeteria staff serves us. Teachers..... some are nice but others are childish. i understand that i am a student and should respect my elders but some teachers here show no respect at all to the students that they teach.
My son is a sophmore at Sale High. We relocated to rockdale county school zone two years ago, because of the schools AYP rating. While in dekalb county my son had problems with understanding the school work and confrontations with other students.Without hesitation, I made a sound decision to move and sacrafice my commute to work. It has been well worth it. He's striving for better grades,he say''s the teachers listens and cares, and he wants to get up and go to school everyday. He's also a part the excellent of the seminoles football team. One problem we have had is the lack of nutrition in the lunch option. I truly recommend this school!
i am a student at salem and i believe its a great school. salem offers programs to help students find who they want to be before they go out to colledge and discover that it isnt for them. Some of the teachers can be too strict some times. I think they should allow the students more choices like what they want done with the school and where the money goes. Another thing to do would to improve on the lunch menu because it doesnt have the nutritional value a meal should have. I have been going to salem high for one year and i felt at home at once to its open environment for learning and should be given more credit then it has been given.
I am a parent of a salem student and have a graduate. There are some excellent teachers and staff there. I do feel that some teachers don't care and are only there for a pay check. I would like to see the teachers who make negative comments and unprofessional remarks to students be held accountable for the comments just like the children are held accounted for their behaviors. We do not need negative teachers teaching our children. Sometimes these types of comments can turn a child around for the worse and they wont even try. I think that Salem High school schould get a parent organization together so that they can hear the concerns of involved parents which maybe will attract the parents that are not involved to try and resolve some of the issues or concerns to this matter. Over all I have no complaints. This is an excellent school.
I am a parent of a Salem student. We have just recently relocated to the area. My son felt right at home here at Salem High. The staff is very strict on bad behaviors and very serious about education. My son even made a 3.0 for the first time, thanks to some wonderful teachers at Salem. They also have a great weight training program and football team.
The academic enviroment created by this school's leadership continues to be outstanding.
I've been working here for 10 years! The school has went from excellence to need of improvement. From the teachers to the staff. Don't bring your child here for nothing!
I graduated from Salem in 2003, and was actively involved in band, key club, and several other extracurricular activities. I think this school is excellent in almost every area except for their treatment of average students, such as myself. Basically, if you're not an 'at-risk' student or if you don't have a perfect 4.0 GPA, there is nothing they can do for you. It was like pulling teeth for me and my parents just to get certain accomodations for me, since I have ADD. You really have to be adamant with the administrators if you need anything, otherwise they will not help you.
The academic enviroment created by this school's leadership is outstanding. With the highest test scores in Rockdale County, it is clear the teachers know what they are doing. Further, the extracurricular activities open to students are a strong part of the Salem community.
I think that we (as students) should be able to have more say in our education and in our extracurricular activities just because most of us are under 18 does not mean we do not want/need to have a say in what we do and where the school board puts the money that comes in from the state and/or taxes. We as students should also be activly involved in the picking of the teachers, if they are going to be teaching us we should atleast have some sort of say in who they are.
Salem High School has been an excellent example of what a public high school should be. From the wide variety of academic opportunities to the outstanding Fine Arts programs to the atheletics that are on the rise. Overall Salem high school is a 10, a great opportunity for every student who attends.
