Lafayette High School

I am a graduate of LHS and i loved every minute I was there! The teachers are amazing (Warren, Edwards, Brown, Ferry, Hardinger, Burnett) The school is very tidy and well maintained. But most importantly the teachers are excellent! For the most part they are down to earth and eager to help students out with any problems they may have.

I am a former student and I would like to say that LaFayette High School is a wonderful school! It is very clean, the staff is great, the teachers are great. Everything has improved since Pike left and Mr. Peck has taken over. Mr. Peck interacts with the students more. Unfortunately, parents are not really involved and they should be.

I graduated LHS in 2003. In my opinion all the departments were extraordinary in ever aspect. Some teachers were on the right side of the fence while others were not. Every teacher that I had the privelage of studying under taught me something that had stuck with me even into my military career. I attended LHS from 2000 to 2004. I'm currently attending Kennesaw State Univerisity and i couldn't be happier with the education i received. The Social Science and Foreign Language dept. excelled, and I honestly feel like I've got an edge over every person i've encountered since being at KSU even grads from Lassiter, N Cobb, Pope, Gordon Lee, etc.) Because of the care i was shown and the great, thorough education i was given I want to one day return there to teach to try to give back to the place that gave so much to me. I had so many great teachers who gave me info as well as insight into life I will never forget (Gibbs, Arnold, Warren, Risenberg, Edwards', Furman, etc.) An education is what you make out of it, and if you give any kind of concerted effort you're education from LaFayette will be 2nd to none.

I was a student at LHS in 03-04. It was the best place,I would have not traded it for anything. All the teachers really care about you and what is goingon with you.(Mr.Renard,Ms.Hardinger,and Ms.Tolliet)They are just some of the few. If I could I would go Back for another four years.And I know many other students that fell the same way.Parents do not really know from what their kids say.They would have to go and attend the school.We have a great facility and Faculity!All I have to say is your kids learn what they want to learn the teachers try to push it but if your not willing they cannot help!(From a former Student)I learn a lot at Lafayette!More than just math, or english but many life lessons that will stay with me forever! I graduated from LHS in 2000 (the Pike era). The academics at LHS were somewhat lacking, to say the least. While the Social Studies and German departments were very strong, most other departments had few, if any, shining teachers. After graduation, I attented a fairly prestigious university, where I found my LaFayette education to be somewhat lacking, especially in literature and writing skills. My complaints about LHS could fill quite a few pages; however, I have heard many good things about the new adminstration. I'm sure the new principal was left with a dismal staff after 'The Pike Era,' which gives me that much more respect for the job he's performing.

LTC Comer, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the job you do everyday for the students at LaFayette High School. I know high school students are difficult at best, unpredictable in moods and surprisingly encouraging to work with as an instructor. My children have individually benefited from your time and leadership. In different ways, because they are distinctly different, they have followed the JROTC path and chosen definite goals for their future that I am proud of as a parent. Having put 3 children through Lafayette, we decided to home school our fourth child. He excelled, but he asked to attend LHS his senior year. LaFayette has a near 50% dropout rate. The teaching situation is not good, many of the teacher s just come to do a job,they do it and they go home. Quality education is lacking, for example, my daughter who graduated well, had to take remedial courses in college. The teacher s at LaFayette could do much more to affect the dropout and education rates. Lafayette needs teacher s that will reach down and help lift our students up, fortunately we have many good teacher s, unfortunately, we do not have enough!

I am new to LaFayette High School and thoroughly enjoy being here. It is truly a great school and so much better than middle school. So far, the teachers are very welcoming, the classes are actually fun, and I enjoy all of my extra-curricular activities. I hope that anyone who reads this will know that LaFayette High really and truly is a great school, and may consider sending their teenagers here. Everyone here cares about everyone, and it's just great! LaFayette High is the nicest, cleanest, and friendliest school facility I've ever been in and we're all blessed to have such a wonderful building and wonderful administrators and teachers. I strongly encourage this school to everyone!

I have a son that attends LHS. LHS is a wonderful school. I do believe that LHS has the best academic and sports programs in the northwest Georgia area. The staff at LHS is wonderful, helpful, and concerned about their students. I do believe at LHS that the parents should be more involved with their children with school activities. Last night was open house for LHS for the parents to learn more about their childs classes, teachers ,and more about the school. It was a shame that only a small percentage even showed up. So if the parents think that LHS could be a better school they should get involved to help it be the best school in Georgia.

I am a graduate of LaFayette High School, from the Sandra Scoggins days. After moving away to New York City to persue higher learning I discovered that my education at LHS lacked in many ways. One of the biggest dynamics of LHS is the total lack of culture, diversity, tolerance and support by the staff. I suppose the staff only represents the community collective, but I felt ripped off. Nonetheless, I have somewhat fond memories of LaFayette and the community. Just wish I could have had a little bit more interesting experience at the school.

LaFayette High School is a Great public High School with caring Teachers, Administrators, students, and Parents. The Change in Leadership at the school in 2003 has been very positive and Mr.Peek is the hardest working Principal I have ever met. He attends every School function and gets involved. He type leadership is asked for by most and not force fed as a directive as by the past Administration. 1. Improved school Spirit 2. Improved Relationships with Teachers. 3. Improved Relationships With Parents. 4. Improved Relationships with students. 5. Learning has again become fun. 6. Teacher are more open because their inputs now matter and do make a difference. 7. Parents now feel welcomed rather than a hinderance. 8. The School Has improved in all areas not just a few. The school board and Superintendant are motivated to ensure schools in Walker County are and do their very best in all areas'. I am very pleased with LaFayette High.

One requirement of our county school board should be for their children to attend the public schools in our county. Then maybe we would have quality school board members who cared about our High school. Us parents are doing all we can to ensure our children get the best Walker County schools have to offer. All 4 of my kids went to LHS.

Recent administration change and meddling by school board memebers have destroyed this school's potential for progress.
