Margaret Winn Holt Elementary School

My son has been at Winn Holt for 3 full years. He loves his school, his teachers, and his principle. There is great communication between the faculty themselves and to the parents. They take the extra time with kids to really find out who they are so they can make learning fun and engaging. My son had some hard times while his father and I were divorcing and the school worked with him and he was able to visit the guidance counselor several times a week if needed. She really worked with me and his teacher to make sure all of us were on the same pages with him emotionally. The school also encourages the parents to be as involved as possible. I am able to go visit whenever I like, email all the time, I can come participate in class activities with the kids and attend their end of year celebrations. I really love the fact that I as a parent can still be very involved in my childs educational settings and influences. I went to a top rated school district (Parkview) and despite test scores and athletics the school stinks for a healthy learning environment. Winn Holt is amazing, its great to walk into the front office and have everyone know you and care.

This is the first year that we haven't had a child at Winn Holt since the school's doors opened. It was a wonderful place for our children to go. There is a real love for children at this school. Also, the administration takes measures to ensure that the school is always moving forward so that the students can be offered a quality education. Our children were cared for at this school, for being just who they are. The principal is very involved. He's in the hallway in the mornings, greeting students, and he's there at the buses in the evenings. Kids here are encouraged to use their "champion" behavior and are rewarded by various methods: photos on the hallway wall, participating in the morning news show, etc. Every child, though, is offered a variety of ways to be involved, whether through the annual word parade or through the various clubs and activities. Our children loved it here, and they became prepared for middle school. I think that as long as Dr. Curtiss is the principal at Winn Holt, it's going to be a great school.

My daughter's teacher was Ms. Vinson. Regrettably I had to move but Ms. Vinson was the single most important contributor to my daughter's reading increasing 9 levels. She's an awesome teacher.

My daughter goes to this school and they do a lot to get parents involved. Her teachers have always kept me in the loop with what is going on with my child and to education her beyond her expectations.

I have 2 sons in this school and overall it is a pretty good school. This being a title one school the leadership has excellenct training but could domore to boost test scores. I relocated to anoter neighborhood so that I could get my kids inot a better ranked school.

I have been so impressed by the whole school and staff at Winn Holt Elementary! We are new to the area, and have been very happy with the welcoming response we've received. I want to personally recognize Mr. Landtroop for his outstanding work with his students! He even attended our son's basketball game on a Saturday!

I have 2 children at this school: one typical, one special needs. Both have been there since it opened. It started as a pleasant, inviting, caring school. As the student population has exploded and diversified, those intial qualities have deteriorated.

Winn Holt has been a great transition from coming from private school. Last year was our first year and we had a wonderful teacher who went above and beyound. I'm hoping for even a better year this year. I like the fact that my child can be challenged and have fun doing it in the think lab. My only regret was they had pricipal breakfast for the first three nine weeks for students who made all A's but failed to have reconization for students who had all A's for the entire school year. So I'm hoping this year there will be awards day for those students who have excelled through out the year because this will help with encouraging students to be champions throughout the year and to reward them at the end for their accomplishments.

Winn Holt has been an excellent school because of the wonderful leadership of our principal,who by the way is a Principal of the Year. The diversity is the same all over gwinnett and is adressed the best way most Gwinnett schools can address it. We have a wonderful middle school, Richard's middle, who also has a Principal of the year, Judy Stephens. We have had wonderful experiences at both school and just the same at Central Gwinnett. Please continue to focus on the Principals, teachers and staff at our Central Cluster schools. They are superior schools. Central is voted 681 out of 1300 high schools across the nation.We have a wonderful school system dealing with the amazing growth as best as a school system can. I will take the hometown feel of this area over the high schools in Gw. reaching and 4,000 students in one high school!

Last year was my daughter's first year at Winn Holt. She was home schooled for kindergarten, and she attended a free-form private school for first grade. We were more than a little anxious about her entering public school for her 2nd grade year, but we are pleased with Winn Holt. She is an advanced reader, and her teacher (we couldn't have asked for a better one!) made many adjustments for my daughter to keep her challenged in that area. The staff is incredible. The level of communication between educators and parents is impressive, and the PTA at the school is thriving. The school has a rotating weekly schedule of 'specials' classes for music, art, computer, special maths, P.E. and inquiries. All in all, we are very happy with the education our daughter is receiving at Winn Holt, and we're looking forward to the new school year!

It is my daughter's second year in this school now and she has been so happy and nurtured by the staff and teachers. It is a big school yet small enough that every staff has touched a child's memory of the school. I relocated from California and had to adjust to the GA school system as I very much like it in California. After I think the school is doing great compared to other schools in the city. I wish they do more advanced subjects as elective courses for those that are advanced and not being held back by students that are below average.

The school is awesome. I have a daughter going to that school and she just loves it there. Great teachers - dedicated to their work, hardworking and they love their kids its as if they were born to be teachers. Bravo to the whole team. Love it!!!!

This school is run like a well-oiled machine. The staff is friendly and cooperative, the teachers are professional and attentive, and the Principal is gregarious and involved. I am very pleased that my son has had the opportunity to grow and learn in such a caring and diverse environment.

'Bravo' to the entire staff at Winn Holt. My daughter is a 1st grader and this is her second year at the school. Dr. Curtiss is a exceptional role model as well as the teachers. The school is very organized, clean, and safe. I do have one concern that I fell will be the downfall of the school if not approached properly. I feel there is too much focus on non English speaking students/family. So much that my American born English speaking child is now a minority in her class. I fear the attention she should be getting is going to other students. I do not deny any child an education. I just feel there may be a more efficient environment for students who speak little or no english and not in class with students who are having to be held back while others start from square one.
