If you fit into a certain "clique" (socioeconomic range/status) you'll love this school. If you are looking for a school that respects diversity and treats everyone fairly regardless of race/ethnicity/income...keep looking. Test scores aren't everything.

I see that Westside Elementary is rated 9 at Great Schools.com. Sounds like the teachers are doing a great job. I am hoping that the new staff will hold up to the amazingly high standards. I bought a house in this school district because of Westside. A good school is the representation of the community. Great to hear that the "helicopter moms" are participant ing in their childrens life. I know I will be as well! Good job Westside, keep up the great score!

West Side Elem. was a wonderful school until it decided to violate IEPs & 504s. Without a lawyer or even with a lawyer, parents are encouraged to move their children, to another MCS elementary school, if their child requires any extra help. Too much stress is on the teachers & children over test scores. There are also many high-maintenance, helicopter-parents trying to run everything: from every single school function to extra-curriculum such as Drama or PTA events. We have to keep our heads down if we don't agree with the school or school board in fear of all of our children (K, 2, & 3rd) being rejected by their peers thanks to their parents. It is a public school!! not a private school. We all pay taxes, but people keep pushing it to feel & appear to be private: by telling parents to leave if they don't like what is going on.

My child's classroom teacher is A+. She is the best that school system could offer and parents could hope for. When it comes to classifying child's language, this school failed terribly. If your child is Native English Speaker, don't mention in Enrollment Form any other languages that one parent speaks (write three times English) because your child will end up to ESOL even their Native Tongue is English and their English is at the level of age group.

West Side is the kind of school every parent dreams of sending their child- small, high performing, outstanding teachers, smart principal and friendly parents. This is my 3rd child going through West Side and she loves it just like the previous two. My older children love the 6th Grade Academy and Marietta Middle School. I've been so impressed with the outstanding teachers and staff at Marietta City Schools!

The Principal and Teachers at West Side are the best you'll find around! My family moved into Marietta City because of West Sides' outstanding reputation and how impressed we were when touring the school. My children love the Drama Club, Movie Nights, their TAG classes, and most of all -the teachers! The culture at this school is so special and unique -I can't thank you enough, Marietta City Schools.

We can not say enough about West Side. Our family has been at West Side for 8 years with both of our children attending since kindergarten. The staff is the most caring, involved group of teachers that continue to impress us with their willingness to do what ever it takes to teach each and every child. The open door, open arms, feeling that you get when you walk the halls assures you that your child is in the best place they can be. The TAG (Talented and Gifted) program that they offer is a tremendous success. My children love the opportunity to explore different academic areas such as broadcasting on the Stinger News, Power point presentations in Computer class, and Fitness classes just to name a few, This program is done in such a fun way that the children have a great time while learning. The after school program continues to bring different opportunities for the kids to be involved in classes that they may not be able to otherwise attend; tennis, acting, and chess just to name a few. We could go on and on; you just have to see it for yourself and be prepared to be as impressed as we are!

As parents of a 5th and 4th grader, We can not say enough positive things about West Side. As transfer students 2 years ago, our children were made to feel as though they had been coming to WS since Kindergarten. As parents we were welcomed as well with open arms and a real sense of a community. I am so grateful to the administration, staff and teachers. Each teacher has a special gift of how to relate on an individual level to each child, zoning in on their needs and strengthing their accomplishments. WS convinced me to stay within the City of Marietta school system and not enroll my children in private school (which was a strong possibility). To this day, we have never regreted our decision to stay within the MCS system, our children have advanced further than our wildest dreams. Thank you West Side!!

I have two children at West Side and can not say enough good things about it in 150 words. As an alumni, it still has the same feel in many ways as it did in 1970, but has many leading edge programs including our new Gifted/Talented theme. Parents and children will find a small hometown school feel with teachers/staff dedicated to providing top notch learning opportunities. We have home schooled and done private prior to coming to Marietta City. West Side provides us all we are looking for and is a wonderful place for our family. The Principals are exceptional and the teachers, many of whom are unapologetically open about their faith, make a real difference in the school. We could send our kids anywhere, but we CHOOSE West Side!

This is an excellent jewel of a school within a small, exceptional public system. The school offers individualized instruction and differentiation as well as a school wide enrichment model which focuses on gifted teaching strategies for all students. EXCELLENT

This school has a wonderful support system from the Principal, teachers/staff, down to the parents. The school could (physically) use a makeover to enhance the learning environment...other than that, so far so very good!

I recently moved here from NYC. In NYC my Special Ed. child attended private school because her needs could not be met by the NYC Public. I was apprehensive about putting her back into Special Ed. in public school in Marietta. However, my experience has been amazing at West Side. The faculty and support staff are caring and professional. My daughter's noticeable academic improvement was observed within weeks. Words cannot convey what an amazing school West Side is. Kudos to the Principal and her amazing staff !

I've had two of my three daughters attend WS and have been thrilled with results. Diversity in this school is something you won't find in many schools. The administration and 'Most' parents strongly support school and children's success. We are surrounded by many fine private institutions where approx 50% of our friends and neighbors send their kids. We have yet to be tempted to even consider taking our kids out of WS or the Marietta system. The diversity of our system is too valuable for us to overlook. I would recc'd everyone needs to give this system an honest evaluation before considering alternatives and jumping to an assumption.

This school is outstanding. My daughter was in private school, but moving her to Westside has been great. Her classroom performance has improved dramatically. My son loves it as well. The combination of small school, committed professional teachers and fantastic leadership has made this one of the best schools I've ever seen.

I have two children at West Side and I absolutely love it! The classes are small and the teachers and staff are great. They always make you feel so welcome at the school, and they love parental involvement. West Side is small enough it feels like you're attending a private school.
