After spending hours talking to various therapeutic boarding schools I found SHA. I was only on the phone with Trace for about a half hour and decided that is where I wanted him though it was very far from California. It was extremely difficult to drop him off but the staff was so wonderful. When we returned to see him, our son was respectful and changed for the better. We went through all his school work and were extremely impressed with the education he was getting. I will be forever grateful to Trace and SHA. It is such a wonderful place!!!

Shepherds Hill Academy helped us all step back and see the truth about what was going on in our family. Our son got some time apart to work through his struggles, and he came home a healthier person. My wife and I went to the parent seminars, and they opened our eyes about how God calls us to parent our children. Parenting is still a tough job, but now we are all better equipped to live how God asks us to live.

Shepherds Hill Academy is simply amazing. The heart they have for struggling kids, the passion and dedication to helping them reach their full potential, there s nothing like it anywhere. What a blessing to have found Sheperds Hill when our daughter needed help.

My wife and I sent our Grandson to Shepherds Hill Academy for one year. What an awesome program!! Trace Embry and his staff were such a positive influence on my Grandson. The Christian environment at Shepherds Hill was the foundation for this young man to build the rest of his life upon. Ralph Hudgens Insurance Commissioner State of Georgia

Finding Shepherd's Hill was a direct answer to prayer and has been even more than we could have asked for for our daughter. SHA offers a quality education, caring and skilled teachers, and an encouraging, loving environment. We know that the teachers and staff love and take care of our child so well that we can have peace that she is safe and secure. They truly desire to see our daughter excel educationally, emotionally and spiritually. Their love for the kids is evident in how they pour themselves into each student as they seek to know them and know their gifts and talents to guide them to success in life after they leave. We would HIGHLY recommend SHA!!!

Through the MANY hours of Googling , searching, calling, reviewing. Nothing compares to the whole package we have found with Shepherd's Hill Academy. First and most important it is Christian-founded. You absolutely cannot find a better place. They have a structured environment, 24/7 supervision, and the most loving and caring staff! Their desire is for these teens to take responsibility for their own choices, stop blaming everyone else for their problems, and learn to truly live an abundant life that God wants to bless them with. Our son has been at SHA for almost four months now. We have seen a huge difference already! We are so blessed to have found SHA!

I have been reading about this school for several years now by reading their newsletters, visiting their website, listening to their radio program and I've called them to get wonderful advice. Everything I've read and heard has been exemplary! I'm thankful for what they do on very limited budgets and lots of love!

Shepherd's Hill Academy strives to provide a relevant Christian based education to troubled youth. Being a retired educator there are first hand evidence of a concerned staff and director striving to help youth through their troubles.

After years of struggle to bring our daughter under control, and realizing we couldn't keep her safe anymore, we searched for a residential program where she would receive the help she needed and also keep up with her education. After researching several similar schools and talking to their directors, we chose to send our daughter to Shephrd's Hill Farm. I cannot tell you how glad I am that we chose SHF. In every area they exceeded my expectations. The staff, without exception, were professional and loving. The program is strict, but loving. She was able to graduate from high school and learned acceptable behavior. I never hesitate to recommend Shepherd's Hill to other parents. They are truly first class in every way.

Shepherds Hill Academy was a new beginning for our daughter Meagan. The Godly principles and academic studies taught are apart of her life today since graduating High School at SHA in 2007. We thank God for blessings the staff gave her and our family while she attended and the continued support they provide others to this day. The environment allows your soul to catch up with your body in this busy online world of today.

SHA saved my son's life. At 16, he had been kicked out of one school for a progression of behavior issues, had been to 3 psychologists/counselors over a year period for empathy issues, and was on the verge of being kicked out of a second HS for stealing and drug issues. SHAs caring, loving staff, effective therapies, and year long life-changing experience, rescued my son from a desperate future. Shortly after graduating SHA, he graduated HS - a miracle! Next week, he completes 4 years in the USMC.

SHA was a great place for our son to learn in a structured environment, from helpful yet stern teachers, in a Christian setting.

Shepherd's Hill Academy helped our family tremendously. Our teen was in desperate need of help. We didn't find SHA, it literally found us. I'm so thankful that we found a place where our child could heal from the past and move forward. The Christian counseling, equine and girls program (they have boys also) were the major draw. However, we received so much more and it met our expectations one hundred fold. Would highly recommend calling and seeing if this would suit your teens needs - it did ours. Eternally grateful - A Northwest Parent

Shepherd's Hill Academy has provided an extraordinary opportunity for our son to not only grow academically but also given us as his parents the tools we needed to better handle his emotional needs. The staff, from the top down has not ceased in helping him to mature in every way while giving us the peace of mind we hoped for from a boarding school. Five stars is not enough...

This is an excellent school for struggling teens. Our daughter would not have graduated from high school without the help of the dedicated staff at Shepherd's Hill Academy. At age 16, she said she was not going to school. They demonstrated the love of Christ on a daily basis and challenged her to finish her education. She graduated at age 18 with a quality education.

Contact the school before believing any of these posts good or bad. The staff will let you know what the program is all about. and how your child can benefit. Only you know what is best for your child and if this program is a good fit or not. Do your own homework and research before taking someones word on this. It's a difficult process to place you child in any long term program under the distressing circumstances that you may be currently facing. If you are seeking a program with a Christ centered world view then Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) is definitely worth looking into. The program is structured, nurturing, solid academically and spiritually. This kind-of program is not inexpensive and will require a financial sacrifice on your part. Ask the Lord to guide your decision and choice in this matter. He will make it clear to you. My teen is not the same person she once was since being at SHA, her behavior, thought life and her relationship with the Lord have definitely improved. She is on a different path now and SHA has not only challenged her behaviorally, but in her attitudes, beliefs, view of herself and about how she treats others. I am thankful for those who serve at SHA

Obviously, a majority of these posts are plants. Don't send your kids here. It's expensive, damaging, and operating under the guise of a religious institution. Credits do not transfer regularly if you live out-of-state, especially on elective subjects, nor do the subjects themselves reflect a balanced, objective syllabus. If you want to spend money in the ballpark of $50k +, you're better-served sending your child to military school or another boarding program that has been vetted and accredited by its respective state.

I found the staff at Shepherds Hill Academy to be incredibly devoted to their youth! Our daughter came back with a whole new lease on life and a better , more intimate relationship with Christ! She is becoming the young woman we hope God would make of her, and she says much of it is due to her time at Shepherds Hill Academy

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
