As of 2024 Northwoods is the most diverse elementary school in Wake county in terms of number of cultures represented by students, families, teachers, and staff. The teachers are encouraging and considerate, and the administrative team works incredibly hard while looking out for all students' best interests. Northwoods has the best school garden in the state, and offers tons of enrichment opportunities for various student interests.

In my experience I would never send my child here.

My young child was inappropriately touched by an older student. (It’s a school with 3-13 year olds.)

Don’t be fooled by any positive reviews here for this school. I was a teacher at this school and I was demoted because admin called my teaching into question after students refused to take an important regents seriously in my class.

Would NEVER recommend this school or daycare for any child. They have zero patients for the children I heard the daycare people yell at the children. Also Barb the administration is horrible she wants the money she could care less about your child .

Its a good school with great teachers

I have two children at this school who are high performers. The curriculum is well-organized and there are many good teachers at the school. The students that aren't engaged are a constant distraction and discipline is poor and ineffective. My children come home everyday complaining about it. It is a mixed culture of kind and respectful students and very disrespectful, undisciplined students. Unfortunately the administration is incredibly ineffective in managing this and it really takes from the experience the teachers and cooperative kids deserve. The students to teacher ratio is closer to 1:30, not 1:20 as they claim.

This school encourages the students and their families to stay engaged with the school activities and the teachers. Vandenberg really demonstrates the ideal school for the community.

We can't wait to get out. I went to this school and it was just as bad then if not now. If your last name isn't popular, you mean nothing. My children have had a horrible time with bullying, both physically and mentally by staff and other students, and the school does nothing about it. They are not well set up to handle children with diabilities whether that be physical or mental. My children feel like they arent learning anything, and they aren't getting help from the teachers. Don't walk, but RUN from this school district.

I would say learning here is not as interesting as they may make it Yet the teachers try to Support the students, but the kids that are misbehaving end up, distracting the teachers and making them not be able to help the people that need help.The school offers A therapist which is good for mental health and they have a lot of counselors but I feel they don't reach out enough. They have a very interesting special education that they do handle well. There is quite a bit of fights happening here they do their best To try and stop it, But It slips through the cracks. They send Home a weekly message every Sunday to keep families, engaged and involved.
