Administration is definitely terrible. The office staff have very bad attitudes and are extremely rude. I have to children who attend Hilo Union Elementary. My youngest is in K and my other son is in 5th grade. One of the teachers have been giving my 5th grader a hard time from the beginning of last year. She has been making him call me on numerous occasions, telling him what to say but not coming on the phone herself. My son is terrified of her because she "yells" at everyone if they don't know the answers to a problem. She has talked down to him and even made fun of him in front of other students, making him feel insecure about himself. This is totally inappropriate behavior, especially coming from a teacher who is supposed to be teaching our children and getting them ready for the future. I am currently working on transferring my children to another school because of these issues and I do not recommend this school to anyone!!
the staff is great and very helpful. the teachers are great!!!!!!!!!!!1
This is my 1st year with HUS. I have 1 in K, and 1 in 6th. I am however terribly dissapointed in the administration. My K had an awful 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the class had to readjust all over again to a new (and wonderful) teacher who should be looped to this class next year. Recently notified administration decided not to loop. The instability is heartbreaking. This school 'claims' a zero tolerance policy for bullying... however, both of my children have been bullied by children of a staff member. Every instance has been overlooked, and I have never been addressed directly. This administration treats me like the plague, rather than addressing the elephant in the room. I volunteer as much as I can so that I can be sure my children are physically safe. I feel no safety of stability under this administration.
