My son has attended King K for one year. He had a lot of difficulty at first but ended the year on a high note. I work for the DOE and would have moved my child to a different school if his kindergarten experience had not been a good one, so I'm pleased to say that he will be returning to King K for first grade in July! The administration is helpful and accessible and my son's kindergarten teacher, though tough, was very good. The school offers many extracurricular activities such as Family Fun Night, Let's Have Lunch, and the Kindergarten Farm Fair. The PTA seems strong and I'm proud to be a member.
We have been at king k for 5 years, and have overall been pleased with the school. The school is small and all the teachers know the students, which i like, and i have found the staff open and easily approachable and helpful. It is a public school and thus has all the challenges of budget restraints, test scoring issues, etc., But i have found the administration, ms karen liu (principal) in particular, to be creative in her solutions and open to ideas. They have even recently upgraded the menu at school to include much healthier food, and snacks are allowed only if fruit or vegetables or healthy. Overall, i would and do recommend king k, and feel it is a little treasure on this wonderful island. And the parents are great too!! lots of help and involvement, and even volunteering in the classroom!!
