Longfellow Elementary teaches all the core classes while giving my son knowledge about different countries, geography, global issues, and the sense that we are not alone on this planet. The teachers are dedicated, first-rate, interested in what they teach, and not at all entrenched. The parents are active and involved. The kids are interested in being at school and enjoy themselves.

All concern dissipates as I walk from the Longfellow front entrance knowing my children are in such good hands...this feeling is validated at the end of the day when my kids tell me of the days adventures, things they are studying and the friends that they have made...what great little people they are becoming...products of their environment is what comes to mind and leaves me with no doubt that Longfellow Elementary is a very special place, thanks Longfellow!

I am a single mother of three. When researching schools for my Kindergarner and my 2nd Grader, Longfellow was by far the most impressive. Unfortunately, it wasn't in my district. I open enrolled and was fortunate enough to have both kids welcome. We are going into our 2nd year with my youngest starting next Fall. We couldn't be happier! The teachers, administration, kids, learning programs, work ethic, and overall environment make my kids want to wake up and go to school!

It goes to the outer limit of providing students with extra ordinary learning experiences. We have all the staff on board and are very excited about our cultural learning of all different countries, a new one each month, the school is learning spanish as well. We had OMSI come to our school and provide science projects as well as health hands on learning.

The international program at Longfellow teaches children about the world around them! The teachers are passionate about what they do and that translates into students that are excited to learn!~

The Longfellow staff does a great job of working together to help every student achieve their goals. How many other schools have their teachers tutoring other teacher's students during their prep times? I see a true team effort there.

Longfellow is a fantastic neighborhood school where kids can easily walk in complete safety each day. The parent support of this school makes it unique in so many ways. Parents support the teachers, work in the classrooms, help with events, and raise tons of money that goes right into the classroom. It is almost like a community center, and students who have gone on to jr. High come back for frequent visits with their favorite teachers or to attend events like the annual carnival. The teachers are awesome and the principal is warm, caring, organized, and totally rocks. This is the best school.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Idaho used the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading, math and language usage, and in grades 5, 7 and 10 in science. The scores from the spring administration are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The grade 10 ISAT is a high school graduation requirement. The ISAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering the specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Idaho. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
