We are in our second year at Rolling Hills, and we've been very pleased. The curriculum is advanced (i.e., math taught at one year ahead) and offers Spanish instruction and a small-school environment. Our four teachers to date have been excellent. Remember this is a charter school, but it is also a public school which means all students, enrollment space permitting, are accepted for admission. This means we have a diverse range of student abilities and needs, evident when you look at aggregate test scores. Both of my upper elementary grade children scored in the advanced and proficient levels on their ISATs. The teachers differentiate their instruction well. The principal is loved by the students and works tirelessly in a demanding environment.
My son has been attending RHPCS for three years now and we love this school! The teachers really care about the students and are constantly striving to get them to the next level and work with the parents to help our kids achieve success. The administration has turned this school around in an incredible way and made it a positive environment for the students and parents. The faculty and administration adhere to the Habor Method and it has been a positive experience for our family. My son is in 2nd grade and is excelling in math and reading and is and has been light years ahead of the public school curriculum. My son loves his science, computer, music and PE classes and of course his teachers. If you like a small school atmosphere as well as caring teachers and administrators come check out RHPCS.
Very shady school with dishonest administrators. Their lottery does not meet state criteria (no state reps. conducted the lorrtey and it was not witnessed by the public as in reputable charter schools) We were told during an open house that we had a seat, then after the 'lottery' was done were told we were last one the waiting list; however, an out-of-district family who coincidentally runs a day care and is in the posiiton to refer students to Rolling Hills, was accepted) Their rating and test scores are lower than the local public schools, the class sizes are just as large as the public school, they don' have a playground and their history is very checkered. They have a reputation of being less than or no better than a public school, does not care about the 'Harbour Method' they attest to and is just an overall bad school. The actual school grounds are small, but the class sizes are so large that you feel like you're in a crowded public school.
weak middle school, academics not any better than public school, lots of politics, leadership not strong but luckily new board members & some great parents to support the leadership
My son is a 3rd grader and has been at Rolling Hills for 3 yrs. We LOVE this school. My priorities in selecting a school are first the quality of education received. Rolling Hills curriculum is extremely challenging (test scores don't lie) and fun at the same time. My next priority is the ethical and moral standards the school demands with regard to how students conduct themselves and how they treat others while in and out of school. I have been so pleased with this aspect as well. Strict dress code and strict code of conduct is enforced which creates such a positive, educational, kind environment at the school. The Harbor Method is such a positive and effective way to educate children. Because of these standards, the teachers have the time and energy to incorporate so much fun for the kids. My son has the greatest attitude about learning and in my opinion with the right attitude, all things are possible! I highly recommend Rolling Hills Public Charter School to all parents.
I have older children that attend Rolling Hills and this school is small and safe with an accelerated curriculum that includes drama, music, spanish, computer, community service in addition to core subjects. Many extracurricular activities are available also for a small school. My children can compete in MS sports like Basketball, Volleyball or Track. They can participate in Writer's Cafe with one of our outstanding MS teachers weekly. They are encouraged to be kind, courteous, and responsible. This school does more than just prepare my children academically for high school, but helps them develop confidence in themselves to be sucessful. This is a great school!
Rolling Hills is a truly wonderful school! Call to schedule a tour and see the great things happening here. My family is personally blessed to have our two children attend in this safe, acedimically challenging school and be educated by great teachers under the friendly and watchful eye of our principal, Dr. Montgomery. It is my pleasure to be able to work in the school every day as well.
I love teaching at Rolling Hills Public Charter School! The students are great and the staff is terrific. We are a small school dedicated to our students and each of their individual needs. I am able to know each student's strengths and weaknesses and appreciate all. Going to work every morning is a delight, because I know students will respect me, their classmates and all adults in our building. We have a high standard for academics as well as a high standard for character. Rolling Hills is the place for you if you want your child succeeding academically and socially.
We came from a home school background and were looking for the quality of education as well as a safe, warm environment. I continue to be impressed with the dedication and quality of the staff I have come in contact with. I appreciate whenever I come into the school I receive a warm friendly greeting. I really value the daily hours and yearly schedule. I get more time with my child and he has enough time to complete homework, responsibilities and still have time to play (breath). We love this school!
We love Rolling Hills Charter School!!! Our oldest daughter was in private school last year and she was doing fabulous in the small learning environment. We knew we wanted to transition her to public school, so we did our research on local schools. Despite getting into two other charter schools for the 2010-2011 school year, we chose Rolling Hills for our daughter. We knew the 20 minute drive would be worth it. The smaller school creates a safe learning environment, which allows the students to thrive. The curriculum is challenging and accelerated. The Concept Boards and Shurley Method are important teaching tools. The teachers are compassionate and dedicated to their students and to the the Harbor Method. We love that the school offers Spanish, PE, computers and music. The principal asks for parents feedback, wants parents involved, and truly cares for the kids. The new school secretary is wonderful. She makes you feel welcomed and communicates with parents via weekly email updates. We are thankful to be part of the Rolling Hills Community.
