This school is an overall good school. For those who want a technology based education in a small-scale environment, this is a great place to go. Unfortunately, there were a few downsides which made me greatly consider leaving the school. One obvious downside is the fact that all extra-curricular activities must be done at the home school. Typically, the home school gives the student more trouble than necessary simply because they don't attend. Other than that, it is still a great school compared to the other public schools around.
In a nutshell, this school is excellent. Advantages: The standards are high, so this school is for the student who would appreciate a challenging education and preparation for a prestigious university. The staff is dedicated to their craft. The atmosphere and overall attitude at the school supports an enviornment of high achievement--which is the norm, not the exception. The kids, no matter how cool or ackward, fit in here, which makes this a unique place for kids to learn. The school size is small, which offers kids opportunities not afforded at larger schools. The quarterly fitness day means the entire school participate in skiing or snowboarding in McCall or take advantage of other choice physical activities. The tech parties, philosophy club and Mr MTCH contest, and other clubs are fun for the students. Disadvantages: Sports, humanities, band etc will require participation at the neighborhood high school, which is permitted.
My experience in MTCHS has been better than any school I have ever attended. The Teachers are dedicated and love thier job and are fun to have teach since they try to make the class interesting. The students are actually motivated and work. And not to mention the low student body makes it easy to take a break from all the hustle of a normal high school. The higher grade standards (75% is passing as opposed to the usual 80%) garuntee that students are actually trying to make the grade. I know all this because I am currently a student at MTCHS
I do believe that this school has made a positive difference in the students that attend here. All of my kids have gone here, one has graduated and was on the honor roll, before she was average at best. My two sons who now attend find it very challenging, the older was always a below average student and has been on the honor role here. My youngest son is plugging along and enjoying the small class room experience plus the one on one help he gets from the teachers who want the kids to succeed and know each of them personally. The priciple and her staff are wonderfull, they know your kids, they help your kids and keep you as a parent informed and involved. I would recommend this school to any student that wants to make a future for themselves, only catch, they must be willing to work hard!
I am currently a senior at MCHS, and I can honestly say that this school provides the highest-quality technological education this side of college. Our courses range from networking to programming to engineering to graphic design. No matter what your focus is, this school will help you learn more about computers and how to use them than any other school around. It isn't a 'nerd' school. It's a place where students are prepared for the best jobs available in todays market.
Hello, I am a current student at MCHS. One of the small percent of girls who attend, but I love it. I transferred form a public school my 10th grade year and couldn't be happier. There is a sense of community and friendship everywhere, and so many opportunities that normal high schools just don't get. Even if you or your child doesn t necessarily want to pursue a career in technology in the future, many skills you acquire while attending MCHS will help you in just about any career. We give speeches and presentations, we learn how to use numerous computer programs like Microsoft Excel, and this year I am taking honors physics, which I hope will aid in making math a little easier in college. I would like to encourage you to at least take a tour of our school thanks-KH
I am currectly a student at MCHS. This school is one of the best, if not the best in this district. Lack of extracurricular activities is trying to be handled, some clubs have been proposed. This school prepares its kids for postseconday education. Not just nerds come here, although there isa lot of tech. But, tech jobs are growing fast. Please consider sending your children here. The administration is great and there are very few problems dicipline wise, after the year gets started. There will always be some problem kids though. ~Andrew 'Gammy' Wingfield
I am not a parent, but a former student. I graduated from MCHS in 2002 in the first graduating class. MCHS has prepared me above and beyond both for college and the workplace. I would recommend Meridian Charter to any student who is willing to work a bit more but learn miles more.
This is a great school. The requirements for grades are higher (74% for a C, for example) and kids have to maintain at least a C average in order to stay in the school. My child is a sophomore here and we've really seen a change in how much he likes school. He is also able to work on life skills and important certifications, and to earn college credit in the senior year. Slight negatives are few extracurricular activities, kids have to go to their regular high school for sports and other things. Parent involvement is encouraged. The school is small and there seems to be little of the social backbiting that goes on in bigger schools. The kids are allowed a little more freedom. They are allowed to go out on fitness days (next month my son will go to Brundage with the school, with our permission of course).
I am not a parent, I am a sophomore currently enrolled at Charter. I have only gone to Charter for one semester and I have accomplished more here than I did at CHS. Though lack of Extracurricular activities, this is by far the best school to goto if you are the least bit interested in technology. Besides, not all of it is computers, there are Electronics courses you can take.
