We are new to the area and heard of so many great things about Batavia schools. I have to admit my husband and I are not impressed. We don't feel my child was challanged enough throughout the year and the school events were minimul compared to the school my child previously attended. Teacher communication was lacking. The grading system was strange and very difficult to grasp. Not the old school way (A, B, C, D, F).
Excellent teachers who are involved in the student development. Commitment and dedication in and outside of the classroom.
I have two children at Storm. The Teacher are wonderful, and take an individual interest in the wellbeing of all the students. The stall is always helpful and it is apparent that they care about the students. The quality of learning is outstanding.
The teachers are wonderful, however the school playgrounds are terrible at best. The morning lineup procedure also needs to be looked at.Oh, and by the way, parking is minimal at best.
I have 2 children at Storm. The teachers and staff are great! They know (well, it seems they do.) everyone by name! There are some older as well newer teachers, so I think it gives the school a mix of teaching styles. There are some parents though, that I would say are a bit exclusive, some are not very friendly to new-comers, as I was one last year. My only problem with the school, besides some of the cliquey parents, is I do not know of any gifted or advanced programs, like the another parent had talked about. I am going to inquire about it, because I believe my children would benefit from that. Other than that, I am pleased with Storm.
I have 3 children at this school, all with varying ability levels. There is a Challenge program for gifted/academically talented children starting in 3rd grade. For those children who don't qualify, but require more than the standard curriculum, there are bonus math packets which can be done as replacements to the every day math work. For children who need a little extra guidance or nurturing, this school has a pool of wonderful aides. Even if a child doesn't require an aide, teachers are willing to make certain accommodations to suit student's needs. The special programs are wonderful too--each child receives 6 years of Spanish instruction by the time they reach middle school! The majority of the teachers are effective and work with parents to best serve the students. I've made several special requests for my kids and have never been disappointed.
The educational opportunities at H.C.are minimal at best. Most children are instructed below-grade level and teachers do not genuinely care about their students and their development. Although there are some good teachers here, the over-all quality of instruction is poor. Priorities are not uniform and too much time is spent off task in some classrooms. For the at-risk child that needs nuturing, there is a lack of caring about the student's educational and personal development but the real need of smaller classrooms is not provided. This is not a school for any child seeking to advance his academics. Furthermore, this school does not provide any gifted classes nor will work with a family that has a gifted child. In reponse to the Principal refusing to contact me regarding gifted classes - I have since then pulled my son from this school.
