This school is awsome. My daughter learned to read quick. Her math skills advanced as well. A very friendly, safe environment.
Our 1st grader is having a great time after almost a full year. Word of mouth had us steer clear of certain teachers, but that will be any school. Heard good things about the new principal, but time will tell. Residency requirements should be looked into further as class size and demographics seems out of proportion to the area. The new after school "Reach" program is working out great. For such a big school, wish there were more rating from parents on this site.
Standards for this school have dropped since 4 yrs ago. classes are to big . I would like to know how many of Children attending Pioneer live in the area around the school.
This school has great teachers, but I don't think is well staffed. I think they should have more bilingual/bicultural teachers. The last principle was not an approcheable person. Let's hope the new principle will be better
This school rates high in my opinion. The teachers go the extra mile. The staff is well trained and professional. The students learn more than academics they learn to be responsible citizens.
I have lived here for 6 years. My oldest daughter attended Pioneer for 5 years and is a very smart and confident middle school child now. My son is going into third grade and he is not as academically adept. The teachers caught his low performance and have given him so much support. Everything from reading programs during school, tutoring after school, testing his strengths and weaknesses-all free. The teachers and administrators are respectful to me during all of this process and my son still loves school, but he says it is hard-I say 'that's a good thing.'
I am pleased about Pioneer School . This is only possible with excellent Principal leadership and parent involvement .I have spent a lot of time Europe and Pioneer is on par with some of better schools I have seen . The only draw back I have noticed is the large class sizes. One of the better schools in Bolingbrook by far.
In a recent Chicago Magazine article titled, 'The A+ Team', Pioneer Elementary School was listed among the top 115 schools in the region, and one of the top ten in Will County. The magazine considered statistical data including average class sizes, expenditure per student, and standardized test scores to compile their rankings. The schools were then grouped by county, and the city of Chicago. The Chicago Tribune has twice cited Valley View Schools in recent years for student achievement. In 2004, Independence Elementary School was named as one of the top ten elementary schools in Illinois for narrowing the achievement gap between white and non-white students as measured by ISAT scores. The same designation was conferred by the Tribune in 2003 for Pioneer Elementary School.
Overall this is one of the better schools in Bolingbrook as evident by the test scores. The teacher involvement is high and the children seem enthusiastic about going to class.
We lived in the area for some time but moved to the Pioneer district before the start of 3rd grade for my daughter. It was the best moved we ever made. From the principal, Mrs. Haley, the teachers and staff of the after school care program - we could not have had a better experience. I had the pleasure of meeting with Mrs. Haley during an end of the school year meeting, she then explained the school philosophy and what expects her staff to pas on to the children. From that meetin I could see not only the mutual respect within the staff but also the pride that carried throughtout the school and into the children. The children truly got the best learning experience possible. 'Thanks Pioneer, you are the BEST!' I only wish that we would have started with you from Kindergarten.
