My child goes there now and will not be returning next year. They want your money. Period. It's not fundraising..its basically begging. Every single week. Like other reviewers said, there is basically no parent-teacher communication. It's like they don't want you to know what's going on. There are no language programs, no arts programs, and I'm pretty sure their math is sub-par. If you want your child to have a religious education, fine send them to this private school. If you have been brainwashed into thinking the local public school is going to destroy your child, think again. They want x amount of money to sit in church and watch tv all day....no thanks.
my kids have been going to this school since pre-school and it shows in the grades they get.my wife works and no one looks down at her because she is not a stay at home mom! i choose to send my kids to this school instead of having a second home or a big suv.again my kids are A and B plus students this is a great school, you cant redo an education!
I was very happy with my son's experience at St.Christina. He received a wonderful academic as well as religious education. His religious education was presented to him in a way that made sense. It was much better than I could have done on my own. Keep up the great work!
I think St. Christina is a great school. They have caring and competant teachers. Students that attend there can be assured that they will be able to compete with other schools in the area. Look at the honor rolls of the High Schools. Where did they attend for grammar school? St. Christina, that's where. Good job to faculty and staff.
Great school. I attended there for eight years. They were the best years and I still keep in contact with my schoolmates. The teachers there are awesome.
As a current parent of this school, I can only say that I'm happy we aren't returning next year. I find that the lack of diversity makes it difficult for people of color to coexist here. The attitude of the students and faculty is clear that only certain types of people should attend this school, very sad to admit.
Excellent school. My daughter graduated there with staight A's. She was on the A honor roll the whole time, got into McAuley with a 99 percent tile, got a 29 on her ACTs, and now goes to University of Illinois studying to become a nurse. Great job Saint Christina!
i graduated from St.Christina in 08, and honestly im glad i graduated from there, i do agree with some of the parents abt the after care, but you know what Sc is a great school i graduated there as a A honor roll student and the 8th graders who graduate go to great hs like marist or mother mcauley and they r put in honors & ap classes 4 a reason, bcauz they gradauted from an excellent grammar school called St.Chrsitina. nd 4 those whose kids r struggling then there is summer school and the teachers always ask if ne one needs help its ur childs fault if they dont raise there hand. i struggled in 5th grade there but if i had never raised my hand i wldn't b where i am now which is a 3.9_ 4.0 gpa student.
St. Christina has been a wonderful experience for my son. Then again, he is a good kid who doesn't need much in the way of extra help and is not a discipline problem. I think that the parents who are submitting scathing reviews have children who either have disciplinary issues or need a little extra help. Catholic school in general are not set up to address children with any type of special needs, whether they be greatly ahead or behind. Some of these parents (obviously) refuse to believe that their children are the ones who are causing the disruptions. All in all St. Christina is a wonderful school with a solid cirriculum. There is a lot of homework, but with adequate parental support this shouldn't be a problem for a dedicated student.
Poor principal leadership and involvement. 70% of teachers are very good. Some are past their prime. Way too much homework! Not enough artistic programs. Too much money begging.
i used to go here and the teachers were great and the education and learning standards were wonderful.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY SENDING YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. As stated below, there are very few teachers who help a child where they are struggling... no recess, or lack thereof... the afterschool care is a joke - it's in the basement of the church that hasn't changed since I've been there.... It's truly aweful. I'm pulling my child out mid year because of this. In addition, Christian people go here? Excuse me? If you are a working mother you are looked down apon - which, in turn, affects your child - just aweful!
I don t know how the word got out this is a good school. Teacher communication with a parent is lackadaisical. If you child falls behind there is no game plan on getting the child help. Play is not encouraged at recess, if and when the children get one. The after care is militant. Stop yelling at the kids it only teaches hate and revenge. Be careful; if something like divorce or a job layoff makes finances tight don t expect too much support from this institution.
St Christina is a very good school. However like most schools it does have its flaws. The disciple is not structured to both boys and girls and the teacher parent and principal parent relationships are very unproductive. The rules and guidelines they have set do not let the parents get involved. Questions and issues do not get addressed in a timely manner and bullying is a very big problem there.
I do not agree that the school is a disappointment. My daughter graduated from there last year and is on the A honor roll in high school. She was well prepared.
This school continues to be a disappointment for me as a parent. I do not feel that the teachers focus on the children who need a little extra one on one time. My child has continued to struggle with math, I don't think she is getting the extra help she requires and deserves as a student. I think by sending her to the neighborhood public school, she will have a better opportunity to learn and be successful. I think when you hear the name 'St. Christina', you are paying for the name only, not the excellence of education.
I am so appreciative of all the time and effort put into my grandchildren's education at St. Christina. The level of caring, from Fr. Marty on down, consistently shows through. The children are always well looked after, their efforts recognized, and the teachers and aides are all willing to go beyond what is expected in order to ensure the children understand what is being taught. Additionally, as a substitue at other schools, I have seen what is considered the norm at schools where teachers are paid much more than is plausible in the Catholic School system. While no school and no person is perfect, St. Christina is truly a caring environment. Fron offering Spanish to reading and science labs to a wonderful, growing library, and a new edition to deal with the overcrowding, St Christina puts the needs of the student at the forefront.
I am disappointed greatly in this school. They have many newer teachers that I believe cannot control their classrooms. The math dept is obviously in trouble. Spanish is also a class wasted. For all the money spent on tuition, I think they should be in the top 10% in the city. Very disappointed. I'm sending my daughter back to St. Catherines in Oak Lawn for her final 2 years.
I think St.Christina gives great education and sports. Their after school program is great. I am very proud of this school. If this school was not here, I would not know what school to choose. I agree St.Christina is a great school.
