Unfortunately, my experience with Roosevelt Elem has not been as positive as the rest of the parents on this board. The registration process is a nightmare with the most rude and unprofessional staff I have ever had the displeasure to deal with and even once your child is registered they can't start until days later due to the need to get desks from the district (and this is year after year). And yes. this is supposedly a passing school, but I agree with one other parent, who stated their testing practices should be audited. I feel a learning environment should be a place where a child should feel safe and welcome, I too have noticed that nearly everyone there wears a scowl and they discourage parental involvement...btw NO, there is no playground area, um HELLO! Due to boundary restrictions we are trapped until we can afford private/charter...

Roosevelt Elementary has challenged my son, as well as my daughter. The curriculum is outstanding , and the teachers want to teach the kids. The entire staff continues to motivate each and every child, and I would recommend this school to any and every one. The teachers do not quit, they continue to strive for excellence, and it shows through the students at Roosevelt Elementary.

This was my son and I first experience at a school outside of the Chicagoland area. We were quite nervous and hesitant of the new environment. The principal and staff at Roosevelt Elem went above and beyond their job description to make my son and I feel like we were finally in the right place for a better education. I have to honestly say my son grades chage done a drastic change from good to great every marking period. This is what I have been searching for from Chicago Public Schools and it has never happen. I would like to thank Mrs. Weathersby the principle and staff for a great experince and I look forward to working with them in years to come to keep my son on the right path to success.

My son and daughter both attend this school. My daughter's skills were greatly enhanced and my son (who came there from a sister school because we had moved,) was below preschool level. In a matter of months (2 to 3) he is now not only at grade level but exceeding, reading and writing with ease and he love's it! Their SFA (success for all) is the best thing that has happened to my children, especially for my son. Great school!

I feel my childs' homeroom teacher is excellent, however not some of the others. The teachers seem to YELL at the children for things that are not necessary. I also feel the administrative staff could use a refresher course on how to deal with younger children. The children need time to play outside during the day. They also need to be able to eat lunch without whistles being blown, or principles putting 2 fingers up and waiting for them to look at her during lunch. I also feel the safety facilitator needs to not look so grumpy ALL the time. I feel like I can't approach her, how are the student suppose to feel like they can approach her, if there is a problem at home. I also feel they should look at the testing they do for SFA. I don't think they tested my child correctly for her placement.

My experience with this school was very negative. Some teachers stooped down to the level of the children.
