As a student that went entirely through the Dunlap School system- from Wilder-Waite to Ridgeview to the Middle School and to the high school- I was very pleased with the education and experiences I had at Dunlap High School. I had the pleasure of participating in many extracurricular activities that I loved including band, cross country, Key Club, chorus and track. The teachers, in general, are very supportive whether you are an excel academically or need a little help. The lack of classrooms does result in larger class sizes especially freshman year. Also, the school is lacking in vocational and some higher level AP/Honors classes. However, I still received a very high quality education that properly prepared me for college - in academics, culture, and socially. If I had to choose where to go to high school again, Dunlap would be my pick in the Peoria area.
As a graduate of the school system i can use only one word to describe the student teacher relationship. Tyrannical! stay away.
I would take the two-star review with a grain of salt, especially considering there is a spelling/grammatical error in the very first sentence. I give Dunlap all the credit it is DUE, because it is a district with an extremely high rate of growth that continues to achieve regardless of that challenge.
Dunlap is given more credit than it is do. The tests scores are high but I give little credit to the teachers for that. If you are highly educated and are willing to pay for extra lessons for everything and reteach everything that is taught this school is for you. I had two children go through, one did ok, but the other who is always on the honor roll by the way, has been treated as though they did not exist. I am a parent that was very involved and found that students were treated fairly as long as they were high acheiving. The administration and teachers do not care about anything but test scores. If given the choice to re-do we would have been at Richwoods: more diversity in programs, students and teachers.
Great school with great teachers.
The Dunlap District #323 school district provided a quality education for our three children. Their were very few weak links in the network of teachers throughout the system. Our children were very different, two high achievers and one with learning difficulties. The learning needs of all three were met in a professional yet nuturing environment. My husband and I have tremendous appreciation and respect for all the individuals in our public schools, including administrators, teachers, coaches, and ancillary staff who helped us raise three fine well educated individuals. We are passionate about the quality of the Dunlap School District #323.
We have been extremely pleased with this school district. I have children at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels. The students have very supportive home environments, and they are taught by excellent teachers. These teachers go the extra mile to help their students excel in their studies. They have added in a good number of AP classes this fall, including Calculus, Chemistry, French, Spanish, English, Psychology, and history. There may be more, but I am more familiar with those my son is taking. The senior English teacher encourages the kids to work on their college application essays, and provides feedback to them through this process. The administrative staff is very efficient, as is the counseling staff.
