Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My school is working towards goals of preparing its students for high school and beyond. We still must have our students educated in some of the basic skills of every day living in society. The educators are very mindful of this goal but the lack of participation by the parent(s), probably 80%, is what the biggest issue of concern. As they say you can bring a horse water but you can't force it to drink. The issue is that you can educate the child and parent but if they are not willing to learn there is not much we can do to help.

It's a great school for my kids. My kids like the school but my daughter gets bullied often. None of the teachers seem to know so and I've overheard her talking to her friends and cousins about it.

Someone once asked me why I didn't just fail these kids. I said, "they're punishment must be more severe!" When their grades are ashes, then, they have my permission to fail." I'm Glenside's reckoning!

I have been in this school for 3 years, this is my third year right now. The school is fine, the most things that really are outstanding are their disciplinary rules, students cannot attend any sort of field trips if they are ineligible which is a great system to know who is responsible enough and who isn't, and it also teaches kids a lesson so they can try to follow directions and be on their best behavior next time so they can attend the field trip. In my opinion and experience, i do not think this school is very safe. This year the staff found 3 bullets inside the garbage can. Kids also do start physical fights. Pushing in the hallways, bullying, judging of ethnic background etc. But the teachers are very great, they have awesome lessons which are not boring at all. The only thing that concerns me is safety.

Teaching civil rights in language usage class; Math is at 6th grade level in eighth grade. to many p.c. novelties and not enough basic education. However; There are some really top notch teachers at this school. Mr. Mauro, Mr. Meldrum, Mrs. Bower and Mrs. Wilkin are some stand outs. The princiapal and assistant principal are also exceptional.

This is the best Middle School ever! We have tons of school spirit, our sports teams are awesome, and we have the best teachers ever! If I were a parent living anywhere else, I would move to Glendale Heights just so my kids could go here!

I was a student here at Glenside for two years and moved my eighth grade year. I have to say right off the bat, this school was amazing. Every teacher I met strongly encouraged kids and truly cared about them. New kids here are very welcomed, I recall every new kid in my lunch was welcomed into any table and kindly introduced to everyone. The past few years brought a new concept that would only allow you to attend school activities if you had done your homework and if you did not you would be sent to the teacher who assigned the homework to work on it personally. The school dances were amazing. And of course, you could only attend if your school work was accordingly. Moving the last year made me realize what an awesome school Glenside is. I strongly encourage Glenside Middle School to anyone.

As a parent and prior student at this school I would recommend it to anyone. The majority of the teachers are very good and caring of the students. The new principle has a great repor with the students. There are ample oppertunities for students to get involved. I have had immediate return calls from teachers ( within 2 hours or less ) after leaving a message. My only down side is there really is not much oppertunity for parents to really be overly involved, there is some but not alot. The fact of ethnic diversity is a plus, there is no predjuice as there was when I grew up. These kids will all have to work with other ethnic backrounds when they get jobs and it is good they all see each other as equalls.

I have a child at this school. Last year from the time he got his report card until the next midterms his grades went from A's and B's to D's and F's. Not one teacher contacted us. Their explaination was that there are kids worse off then my son, and it wasn't as bad as we were making it out to be. I'm sorry but any parent would be concerned if their child's grade dropped this significant and not one teacher cared enough to make a phone call or send a note home. I am not happy with this school at all.

I have been very impressed with Glenside. My children have received adequate help with any school work they needed help with and their sports programs are second to none as far as what they offer. All my children have been involved with sports all year, all three years and has kept them very busy. I also liked all the social dances they offer for the children. They are also very strict on keeping grades up to be eligible for social and sports activities. I would highly recommend this school!

I have a child in this school. I have noticed much trouble with police and gangs. I believe the administration needs to put their act together and be more strict with the students. Besides, it doesn't have special study groups/programs for kids that don't want to get involved in the 'social' activities.

I am a parent of a child that attends this school and I know what goes on at this school. First off the ethnic rating is totally incorrect. Second this school has a number of bullies that pick on new comers to the school and the teachers do not stop it. Third, the average class room has 26-32 children per class.
