Teacher effectiveness: Very effective
July 10, 2015
With the exception of my son's first grade teacher (who thankfully retired this year), I believe every teacher at Longwood truly strives to create safe, challenging, inclusive environments for their students! All of the secondary teachers and support staff I have encountered believe that our kids are their kids and respect the trust we as parents put in them as they guide our children. I think very highly of the teaching staff at Longwood!

Develops honesty: Agree

Through their Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible motto, I believe the school works very hard toward developing honesty, integrity, and fairness in the students. I do think improvement could be made when issues continue with the occasional problem student. These students are few and far between in my experience but they are not handled as decisively as I and other parents feel they should be. I do need to repeat, however, actual problem students are very few and far between; no more than in any other school.

My son has been at this school since Kindergarten and is now going in to third grade and my daughter has completed PreK, going into Kindergarten. I have experienced their primary teachers, secondary teachers, administration, and support staff and with the exception of my son's 1st grade teacher (his entire 1st grade year actually - thankfully that teacher is now retired), I have been quite pleased with the time and attention my children have received. His Kindergarten and 2nd grade teachers were EXCEPTIONAL, truly motivated by recognizing the individuality of each student and working hard to make sure their needs are met, creating an atmosphere of teamwork, cooperation, and inclusiveness. I cannot speak highly enough of these 2 women! I don't quite understand why the school's rating is so low as the children all seem to be challenged (perhaps they could be just a bit more; maybe gifted classes instead of one period a day where advanced children can receive specific attention) but overall, I feel the teachers truly care, the support staff are fully focused on the children's well-being. The only reason I don't give the school a 'Great' rating is because I feel the administration could be stronger and there are behavior issues from some of the students that doesn't seem to be squashed as quickly as it should be. I've never heard of any fights or anything just an incident here or there. I would say this school deserves at the very least 7 based on how dedicated the staff is and my personal experience with the quality of work and social environment I feel my children have received and been part of. Both of my kids have excelled and (as I said, with the exception of one school year) I have felt they were in a safe environment full of staff that believe in boosting self-esteem, creating socially responsible students, for the most part, follow through when issues arise - though, again, I do think improvement can be made in this area. I'm a pretty proud Longwood Parent.

My daughter is in K and her teacher Ms. Robles is AMAZING! I have no complaints on the overall school and highly recommend the school. I'm most impressed with how they customize the work for children like my daughter so she/they stay challenged and growing!!!

My daughter has been a student at longwood school since kindergarden, she is now going into 3rd grade. I am very impressed with the attention that she is being given and the way in which the faculty keeps me abreast of what is going on with her academically as well as emotionally. As a working parent, it is easy to be there as much as I can for my daughter and I am happy that Longwood Cares.

This is our first year at Longwood elementry and my daughter really likes the school. I'm especially pleased with her 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Townsend. I have volunteered at the school several times and it appears that the staff really like what they are doing. I also like the school's new breakfast program, it really shows that the school cares about our kids. Regardless of income, every child is fed breakfast for free.
