I'm an Alumni of Lanark High School but I graduated before the consolidation of school districts. They had many different sports including wrestling, when I was there. They didn't have much to offer an arts student but they always presented two plays each year and the music department was always strong with band and vocal classes when I was there. I really appreciated the knowledge I gained at Lanark High School. At that time, we were the Lanark Fighting Beavers. I loved that name.

I am an alumni of Eastland High School and overall, I was really disappointed with the entire experience. I enjoye the English program and the music program, but because of the sports-centered environment, math teachers who are unwilling to help students understand, a mandatory ACT prep during the one break students have, and an ineffective ACT prep at that because of the concentration on English instead of focusing on the needs of individual students. I scored a perfect 30 on English and Reading but my average was lowered because there was no preparation for math. This school needed to focus more on individual needs as a whole and should have been more accepting of diverse ideas and cultures. I found it hard to take my education seriously because of all of the things that went on that just did not make sense.

Every teacher here is willing to work one-on-one with students, and no teacher will let anyone fall behind. The only problem here is sports to the community is more important than the arts. It is really hard to excel in the arts because of this. However, as you have probably already figured out, the sports in this area are outstanding, and it is rather easy to make it on an athletic scholarship from Eastland.
