I have one child in this school and I have found the principal to be useless and the classroom teacher to be unable to work with students with disabilities. My child has a minor learning disability and is in a regular class. Instead of giving him the help he needs his teacher belittles him and gives him constant discipline. She bullies him and makes fun of him in front of his peers. The principal has been made aware of the situation numerous times and does nothing about it. No wonder next year she will be returning as a classroom teacher instead of a principal, she can not run a school! I hope that under new leadership this school will begin taking care of students, and I hope they get teachers training on working with kids with learning disabilities.
I would like to say that my two children have gone to this school and I think it's the best thing that could have happened to them. The school is progresive, and motivational. It is one of many feeder schools to Lockport Township High School, and KG is considered one of the best of the feeder schools. For the person who knocked KG as being undisciplined and sports oriented, their child must have been a trouble maker, or the parent just isn't into the childs education. KG is a great school
this school is all about sport and not education
The school is very clean and the teachers seem very dedicated to the students. The administration is kind and willing to help in any way necessary. Overall Kelvin Grove is a great place for students to learn inside and outside of the classroom.
First, let me state that no school is perfect. However, parents in this school district obviously haven't been exposed to high quality schools. If they had, they would not accept much of what occurs here. The schools are not horrible, but they are very far from what they should be, especially given the high taxes levied here. Greater emphasis is placed on sports and cheerleading than academics. During the recent year-end awards ceremony, 80 percent of the awards were sports or cheerleading related. Pathetic. Furthermore, incidents such as one student beating up another student, go virtually unpunished (one day in-school suspension!). There are a few excellent teachers but they are well outnumbered by poor ones. At a teacher meeting, the teacher didn't tell us how our daughter was doing, she tried to get us to buy books to help score higher on the ICAT exams. Needless to say, we're moving.
The teacher quality is very good, our teacher seems to really care about our children. We are in need of new Principal Leadership and with this I believe we will have better moral within and discipline along with the childrens respect of the Principal. I would like to see new board member as parents of our district not non-parents. We are the highest tax district in Will County.
Awesome and caring staff and administration!
