School Official Point of View

SAC has come a long way since its inception in 2000. In a brand new facility in Mt. Prospect, with a brand new administration and faculty/staff since 2013, SAC has been awarded the top school award at the IJAS Illinois Science Fair in 2014 and at CONSEF Fair, as well as recently placing as the 1st school in the Illinois Math League in May 2014. SAC offers affordable, accelerated STEAM education and is a college preparatory school serving grades Prek-3 to 9th grade for the 2014-2015 academic year. The SAC family is very diverse, drawing students and families from over 40 different zip codes in the Chicago land area and suburbs. Our diverse staff and faculty are fully certified educators and administrators that are dedicated to providing every child at SAC with an accelerated STEAM curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the opportunities to be involved in SAC's expansion. We encourage all interested parents and families to inquire about information, to come see the new SAC for yourself, and make a lasting investment in your child's future through our affordable and accelerated STEAM private education.

As a critical parent who has a tendency of over scrutinizing anything related to my children, I can say that this school has made the grade! The curriculum is exciting and challenging at the same time, and the teachers and administration are extremely dedicated to and concerned for their students. There have been some bumps on the road, but I was highly impressed by the responsiveness of the teachers and administration who followed up with me every step of the way to make sure the issues were resolved appropriately. The school provides a multitude of extracurricular activities which is important to me, as I believe students should be academically stimulated and provided with enrichment opportunities. I think the school would benefit from increasing the school spirit through sports teams, drama club and other extracurricular activities, and I see that the administration is already mapping out ways to accomplish this in the near future. With responsive and concerned teachers/administration, an engaging curriculum and several after school club options, in addition to reasonable tuition rates, I think SAC is a leading private school in the Greater Chicagoland area.

The previous post does not reflect the truth at all! You can find couple of unhappy people at every school. The school is extremely clean. The Cockroach story is a big lie. People may have personal problems with the admin, or school, but it does not let them lie about the school. It is not right! There are hundreds of people sending their kids to this school, why would they do it if their kids are being bullied, or treated differently, etc. Please be rational!

I have seen some other schools lately, SAC is my son's best experience so far in terms of schooling. His reading and math level is flourishing day by day. He loves going there. The money that I am paying is surely worth it.

We just moved to IL and my two sons (7 and 4 ages) go to SAC. The first reason I fell in love with this school is all the teachers' always being nice and smiling. It feels like a family from the moment you walk inside, feel like you already known every body walking around.Principal team is so helpful and work so hard to help kids have every kind of experience including science projects to community volunteering. Wonderful classroom teachers and also art, music, spanish and Turkish teachers. Have so many different students from different cultural backgrounds. Almost every student in the school plays an instrument and school have concerts twice a year. Facility is new, so clean and so colorful. Robotics club and cultural festivals club help students to improve their self confidence and reflect themselves in every subject area. Number of students per classroom is not more than 20 so every student has enough time to reflect himself. The only thing should be improved is facility, unfortunately they don't have basketball and tennis courts. I hope they will have this kind of facility with the high school they are gonna open.I am also so happy with the tutoring teachers offer free if needed.

My experience at SAC has been great so far. This is my second year with the school, and I reenrolled my son for next year already. The curriculum is rigor, and the school offers lots of extracurricular activities. Teachers and administration are always approachable and available when I need them. The school is always clean and neat. Definitely suggest SAC to prospective parents.

This school is amazing. It has been the best place you can entrust your child to.My older one graduated from SAC and got a lot of learning experiences that he can use in his life.Younger one is still at this school and has also improved academically and socially. This year, the school got the TOP School Award from IJAS (Illinois Junior Academy of Science)and sent about 10 students to the State Fair. The teachers are dedicated, energetic, and caring. They also have very strong background in their subjects. I highly recommend that you should observe with your own eyes.

As a former teacher at this school, I must say I would never send my child there. Emphasis by administration is put on the fact that the school is NOT Turkish, however Turkish customs, dietary limitations, language are strongly observed and the tension between non-Turkish and Turkish culture is evident. Resources are scarce. Teachers had to create their own curriculum based on the notion that students should be taught on a level one year ahead of their grade. There are no special education resources and ESL resources are limited. The new principal and his assistant (dean) are poor communicators and show a general cold approach and disregard for staff and students. Please think your decision through very carefully before sending your students to this school.

My child attends SAC and we love it! In just half of a school year he has gained so much self confidence. His math is improving in leaps and bounds. My child interacts with classmates and teachers from all different backgrounds and this just enriches his experience. There are opportunities to socialize with other parents and staff. There are some bumps in the road here and there as the school always tries to improve services provided it is easy for me to overlook as the staff are committed and administration is receptive to our needs.

We've been at Science academy for a couple of years. Before this school year we loved it, however, the organization that owns this school decided to change things that were not broken and took away an awesome principal. This new principal has no personality, doesn't even smile. He can't give you straight answers to any questions about clubs or bus service. Entire administration changed except for a volunteer parent who took over office management. Her smile and hugs reassures my children but the family feel and laughter is gone.

Amazing school! Science Academy of Chicago has been the best place for my daughter to learn and grow all eight years. For parents a great school means: fun learning - check; great teachers and stuff - check; clean and safe environment - big check; clubs and activities - colorful check; long school day - check for working parents; after school care - check. . In fact they have so much to offer students even parents like cooking classes, fun! It is like a big one family where every student is a favorite child. If you want your child to be a math wizard and scientist then you found your school. Thank you SAC for best experience!

I am a parent of two who will be in 1st and 4th grade next year. My daughters have been attending to Science Academy since PK. They love the environment, diversity, facility, and challenging curriculum. They are involved in many different extracurricular activities as well. they both have improved a lot academically and socially.

I love this school. My daughter learned a lot in a year. The improvement in her academic level was amazing. Pros: Small class size, affordable price, kind staff, accelerated curriculum, diverse demographics Cons: The building in Niles was small and not efficient. But, they're moving to Mt. Prospect this year and if they can finish on time, the new building will be amazing.

SAC is without a doubt a great school. The principal cares immensely about each and every student. The faculty are dedicated and wonderful with the children. The kids want to come to school and have fun learning. I feel confident dropping our child off at SAC in the morning because I know she is in a safe, loving and caring environment. They make learning fun and encourage each child to be the best they can be. I love SAC and I think the faculty are remarkable!

My son is at the SAC and I feel that the school is an example of a high achieving school. It's a very caring environment with pressure and kids and parents to do their best. I believe my son is very fortunate to be there. The only thing I would like to see improve is I would like to see more Sports.

I agree with some of the recent postings that the administration and principal do a poor job of communicating with parents and does not,by any means, make parents feel welcome.Elementary education is a collaborative effort between parents, teachers and school administrators and the Principal,in particular, does not appear to support this type of collaboration. I don't feel that the kids are priority,MONEY is! Parents are welcomed and encouraged to come and be a part of the school...As long as you "Smile and Nod" at everything they do/say. The minute you bring up a concern, complaint or just simply question them on a certain topic a HUGE target is placed on your forehead labeling you as a "Problem Parent".What is most frustrating is the lies you are told time & time again in the hopes that, that will stop you from asking anymore questions. If that doesn't work intimidation is the next step.If you want to be involved in your child's education, if you are looking for a warm and caring environment for your child, this is not your school. Also there's no diversity in this school.Unfortunately,we are looking at alternatives at this point including other private school or moving districts.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
