Based on treatment of students, its horrible!! Both principle and staff seem to have mean streak. Daily routine is to issue write-ups, and suspensions, (during next visit, may see stack of write-ups near secretary desk). Had to contact school after finding out other teachers (Art, music, lunch supervisor, etc) have authority to cancel gym and recess based on issue they had with only one student at times. Gym is twice wk I personally feel gym should be mon-fri, but to reduce it to missing entire week or more? Get the impression theres no compassion, patience, love for the kids, or the job! Do understand write-ups are needed at times but some are pety, ridiculous and vindictive! And after hearing about some of the things thats being said to the students, Im convenced some of the behaviors/actions/responses are provoked!! Their good at making students feel well HATED, which should be channeled toward making them feel welcomed and cared for and perhaps that high academic score sauk have, would be even higher. Would NOT recommend attending at all! Would recommend transfer.

Most information under activities is outdated. Kids don't have dance or drama, etc., and the only children who learn Spanish are in the gifted program. The choir and band perform only ONCE out of the entire school year. As a parent I've never felt welcomed in the school outside of P-T conferences and the Principal is "distant" beyond a cordial hello or nod. Kids aren't allowed to play on the playground equipment. There are no enrichment activities, no field trips, no fun assemblies, no before- or after-school clubs. There's no special send-off as the 6th graders move on to the 7th-8th building. This school is all about ISAT scores. To their credit, they do an excellent job of preparing students by providing tutoring at the beginning of the school year, challenging competitions in the classroom, and additional homework. However, test scores alone don't make for a well-rounded student, District 162 is all about image, at the expense of offering their students a global education. I can't speak for the other schools, but the kids at Sauk are missing out on a world of knowledge and experiences that exist outside Richton Park. They'd be better served by the Asst. Principal.

My child went to this school, and I didn't care for it at all. The teachers and office staff were great, but they were so afraid of the principal. The children were treated as if they were in the military instead of school. The principal didn't speak to parents he was just rude. He would make a better principal in high school not 4 -6 graders. He can't lead the children if they are afraid of him. The school would get 5 stars if the principal would calm down and remember this is not military its elementary.

I am a parent of Sauk, my son attended Sauk and now my daughter. I do feel they have the discipline problems under control. Now they have to focus on academics. Reading and Math are not the only 2 subjects our children should be taught just for the ISAT scores. It's a shame when 4th-6th graders do not even know the capital of their own state that they live in.

I feel the quality at this school is second to none! Especially for young men. I have never seen a school with so much parent involvement. The after-school program is wonderful. Although I have to move out of the school district I would recommend anyone to this school. My son used to hate going to school now he loves it. The principle as well as faculty is 100% involved. I support this school in anything.

School seems to do well academically. Test scores seem high. The student to teacher ratio seems adequeate.
