I am a student currently attending this school as a Freshman, and the majority of thing's I have to say about it, is that the test scores, along with the community rating are right. Though this school isn't as bad as some schools, the immaturity at this school really shows. Being a mostly observant person when I want to, I have witnessed how the "kids" at this school act. Seniors, Juniors, and Sophmores, who are constantly reminded to set a good example don't, at least when it comes to a fight of a stupid argument The majority of students at this school are african american, and as a result isn't very diverse Due to the lack of diversity, the students at this school have a hard time greeting/recognizing any discomfort they've possibly given to a new student, causing the said new student to need some time getting used to some behavior. The school isn't that bad, but it isn't good either. I've felt the school could use more diversity and open-mindedness to destroy any discomfort for those shy-students.Clubs aren't really what I imagined them to be. Instead of events being on boards or whatever, the school relies on announcements which aren't plausible due to talking and speaker prob
I am a former student from Rich South High School. I attended this school since freshman year. The school is not as bad as everyone makes it seem. The whole time I was their, I might of only seen about maybe 4 fights. I have had some of the best teachers at this school. They were kind of strict, but I am their to learn . The administration and councelors are pretty good as well. The principal at the school now is no nonsence. She is the type that will put the bad kids out. She told us that she wants us to have the best education and that she wasnt going to let anyone stop us. Most of the parents that are commenting on her are the ones with the bad children. These teachers are not out to get your child, their is at least maybe 10 teachers at South that love your children. I say that as long as Rich South is under the guidance of Cynthia Hudson(Principal of Rich South) they are headed in a good direction.
I am also a Freshman at Rich South and I think he school really isn't doing much better...The kids their and shamely the upper classmen can be very out of control! It's sad because they're supposed to be role models for me and other freshman but they really aren't! I feel like if we can get the kids in line then that would actually be a great school and i agree about the getting cussed out by random adults...that is true because some teachers really do say and do some things that I don't think is appropiate as a teacher...I know a lot of freshmen who will not be attending this for their sophmore year...Most are tranferring and also the school is wayyyyyyyyyyy to overcrowded! It's really ridiculous how I can't even get to my locker without being trampled! You also can't walk the halls without techers and sercurity guards hassling
....oh and to respond to parents with comments about violence, your statements are not entirely true. there are not cops at my school everyday, nor is rich south a dangerous place. lack of information, lack of parent involvement, and lack of home training are the reasons as to why false info is being told and why rich south has begun to have such a bad rep. since our last principal dr.k has been removed from his position, this school has been doing alright and i belive if people tried to envolve themselves in their childrens lives, then things will start improving at more rapid paces. god bless and have a wonderful day.
I am a freshmen student at Rich South. I have all honors classes too but I dont see how we are honors when we are doing the exact same things the regular classes are doing. I dont feel different. The security guards are very aggresive they treat kids however they want. We are constantly getting cursed at all day by any random adult. The kids are sooooooooooo bad! they curse at teachers they fight the security guards. We cant even have a basketball game without the police involved. We just really need alot of work
This school totally lacks the discipline necessary to enable teachers to instruct and engage students. The problem is on the part of which ties the hands of the administration and coddles the students. Last year (06-07)they had suspended after-school detention and only held it on Saturday. By January they were so back up, student realize if they'd gotten a detention they probably would never have to serve it. Therefore, students were out of control.
I am extremely disappointed with the staff at Rich South High School. The PowerSchool was a great addition but many of the teachers won't keep it updated.Trying to contact other staff is nearly impossible. Phone calls are never returned. Rich South has really declined in the last few years.
I truly believe that they are doing great things for students like myself, who currently attend. While many of the parents believe otherwise, we as students are the ones whose opinions really matter, and my classmates would agree that there are many great aspects about this school. The extracurricular activities give students viewpoints on things that students could not receive from a classroom of any school, showing us different careers and actually allowing us to experience some of what is necessary to do those things. Aside from the school itself, the parents of students are very heavily involved in the programs at the school, and when it comes to the grades of the students they are on top of things. Rich South may not be a magnet school, but it is a great school. 'Learners today, leaders tomorrow, and stars for life' the school motto, speaks truth and encouragement to all.
Quality academic programs and capable teachers and administers are available for students. Consequently,a number of students are succeding and preparing to attend college or trade school. In addition, some Rich South parents are very much a part of their children's academic progress. Unfortunately, not enough are. Overall, lack of parental involvement is a major problem. Students should not be left to make most of their own decisions at the high school level. They need to know from their parents or guardians exactly what is expected of them behaviorally, academically and socially. Children need a lot of guidance and support from their families to succeed. Students lacking the involvement of their parents or guardians tend to be disruptive and impede the progress of other students. When we have more concerned parents, we will have a better school.
This school isn't what I expected. I moved from Chicago seven years ago thinking that this would be a great district for my daughter to attend highschool I was sadly mistaken and dissappointed. Every other day the cops where at the school. This school has gotten outrageous with the violence. The teachers didn't seem to care if my child passed her classes or not.
