My son loves Highland. The teachers have to follow a course of study that is required to pass the 'State Achievement Test', which leaves alot to be desired, but that's not their fault. They do alot of hands on activities and the end of the school year plays are wonderful.
I found Highland to be a very unsatisfactory school. Some of the teachers appear to control the school, instead of the principal. Teachers tend to hold to traditional worksheet mentality, little use of other instructional techniques. Reading instruction used to be very basal approached, little variety in instruction. Parents are very unfriendly at this school, tend to be quite self-centered.
Highland elementary school is a great school in my opinion. It is fairly small so everyone knows everyone else. My daughter loves it there too. The kids are learning to be self dependent and that's a great thing. My daughter speaks mostly spanish but only after being there for a week and a half she is learning more english every day.
