Rogers Elementary is a good school. I have volunteered several times and seen first hand how the children are dealt with. Today's children have many problems at home and they need the sense of stability and role models that the school offers. In this day in time Rogers is doing a fine job and trying to raise and teach the children the values and consequences of life!

Rogers Elementary is not a good fit for many children. The administration does not seem to understand that every child learns differently. I have had experiences with impatient teachers who are reluctant to explain things to children who do not understand. Even the special education teachers fail to understand the meaning of patience. Although the students are just children, they should be taken seriously and treated with respect. The discipline at Rogers Elementary is strict and traumatizing. Children learn not to question the authority of their teachers. This destroys their natural inquisitive curiosity- they only learn what the teachers *want* them to learn. I do not recommend this school- if you live in the Waterloo area I suggest one of the nearby private gradeschools.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 Illinois used the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and in grades 4 and 7 in science. The ISAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Illinois. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

In 2013 the Illinois State Board of Education raised the performance expectations for the ISAT in reading and math. These expectations have been adjusted to better align with the Common Core State Standards, a multi-state initiative that established year-by-year guidelines outlining the grade-specific skills and content students need to stay on the path to college and career readiness. The higher expectations of the new standards will result in a downward shift of where students rank in meeting or exceeding standards.
