Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My son is a fifth grader at Westchester, and thus far I am very pleased with the school. The teachers are very accessible and responsive. The principle, likewise, is friendly, easy to contact, and is always out and about mingling with the students when I have been there. My son is being challenged, but not beyond what he can reasonably handle. The curriculum is quite comprehensive from what I can see. I am not aware of any major disciple issues within the school. They also offer extracurricular options like choir, orchestra, intramural volleyball and basketball. All in all, I am very pleased.

Great school system! The teachers really teach the students. I'm very impressed with the level of education given to the children.

Unfortunately, even before the budget crisis in our district, the Duneland school system's ISTEP scores began declining. There is a system-wide attitude that the classroom should only move as quickly as the slowest child in the class and there are no programs to speak of for gifted or academically talented children. Everyone seems to be happy with 'good enough' rather than instilling the will to strive for excellence. As long as test scores are better than the state averages, the administrators are happy, insteading of striving for the best scores in the state or the top ten or whatever. In addition, the schools 'teach' the ISTEP test, so it's very interesting that test scores continue to decline.
