My children and I have been a part of Hawthorne Elementary for 4 years. You couldn't ask for a better Principal or a better staff. We have many parents that also get involved with Hawthorne to make it the best grade school in Warren Township. I am very proud when someone ask me (where do your children go to school?) As a parent of Hawthorne I want to thank the staff and the great parents we have.

We love our school! it is the absolute best ever! when i started my twins, i was a new mom, lost scared more for me than them. And the teachers, mr talbert, mr patterson. They are the best of the best. My children, adam, andrew, abbie, elziabeth just love hawthorne. I have all my trust in them. And as a parent that accounts for for alot when you have kids in school all day. Wondering if they are doing well, if they are safe. I never worry. I get a call when there is an issue, concern, questions. Come see our school, you will see as i did the very first day, god could not have made a better school, the kids have had three teachers in less than a yr have new babies and go on maternity leave, we were all sad, but oh so glad when they came home.

My son was at Hawthorne frome first through fifth grades. We loved Hawthorne. The principle there is the best we have had so far and this year my son is graduating. Most of the teachers there were great. We even had one twice. We had a teacher move up with our son and that was great. I dont think you would be disappointed sending your children to Hawthorne.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
