We have two children who currently attend Covenant Christian High School. This experience has been the greatest school experience we could have asked for. The administrators and teachers pour their hearts into these children. The relationships that are developed between the students, faculty and administration are unlike any I have ever seen. The community environment is exemplary. If I had to work 3 jobs to keep our kids here - I would do that. The opportunity for these kids to learn not only curriculum but life lessons is irreplaceable and cannot have a price tag placed on it. If anyone wants to call me and discuss this school I would be more than happy to talk to you about it. Mark Winely, 289-3259

There are some kids in this school who have said to me, another student, in front of others, that I am in classes for stupid people at this school. Even though it is my business only, before I transferred here, I was in AP World History and French in addition to the regular classes and doing well in both. I transferred near the end of the first 9 week grading period, and Covenant does not have any courses equal to those. Covenant doesn t even allow freshmen to take AP courses for some reason and Covenant doesn t even offer normal history of any kind to freshmen. And since it was 9 weeks into the school year I wouldn t have been able to catch up in Spanish, or the science classes, so I was going to start them Sophomore year since they are only required 3 years. And I was smart and took Gym over the summer to get it over with. And I am pretty sure I am in the same English 9, Computer, Health, and Bible 9 that they all have to take. So I guess those kids need to consider that they are in stupid people classes too. Yes this is bullying on their part, so yes, I guess they have some of that at this school.

This is probably the worst school I have ever been to and we have lived in a few different states in this country. The teachers don't listen to you and are sarcastic to you and automatically assume you are up to no good if you are seen in a hallway outside of class. Then they practically call you a liar to your face when you explain. And I have never been in trouble at any school and get good grades. There is food they order for you that your parents pay for online from restaurants, but it is all unhealthy and expensive from fast food places, I ended up taking my lunch rather than eat that stuff. There are no field trips except for foreign language sometimes goes out of the country over breaks. There is only one foreign language, and not the one I wanted to learn. They don't have a football team yet, but if you are a girl and you aren't in sports, they don't like you much. The boys are treated much nicer than girls at this school. They are hinting that girls should want to grow up and find the husband God wants them to be a wife to..not to grow up and be what they want to be. It's terrible. Don't go here.

We transferred our child here because of a bullying situation in the public school. My child loved it here, however lost several credits because they were transferred prior to the end of the first semester - this school did not have equivalents. My child spent a great remainder of the first semester in study hall catching up in required Bible classes. Second semester we added a computer class, which the school requires but the state and other schools do not. We also added a modified health class. They teach it with Gym here, which our child had taken in summer school. Freshman art class is on a middle school level. My child was happy with the kids and most of the teachers. However, I found the office staff unprofessional and often felt judged and bullied here. Grades are not recorded in a timely manner. My child had to have notes from the doctor to be able to carry and administer medication- I discovered that prescribed medication I had left with the nurse was not getting administered. The staff here is so hard to deal with, and the education so subpar when compared to the top public schools, we decided not to re-enroll next year and our child will go to a different public school.

This school is behind the times academically. They offer very few practical AP classes, there is only one foreign language offered, so if that is not what you want to learn, too bad. The curriculum is rigid compared to the public schools. Grades are not recorded promptly. You may not know how your kids are doing until the end of the grading period. In one of the math classes, if you think your kid is doing well because they get 100% on homework sheets, think again. The teacher goes over the sheets in class, giving the right answers. So if your child has 100% on all homework and 30% on tests, this is probably why. They aren t being taught. In that class, if they raise their hand, they are told the class doesn t have time for questions and those who don t understand will have to catch up on their own time. If you need a transcript for any reason, good luck trying to get the grades on it. The staff is rude and sarcastic to both students and parents. My child with irritable bowel syndrome was told they were not allowed to use the bathroom during class. If you want your child to get a quality education and you don t want to be judged and gossiped about, I would look elsewhere.

I graduated from Covenant in 2009. I am very happy to say that. The lessons learned and the knowledge gained from Covenant are second to none, specifically the Spanish program. I was virtually fluent by the time I graduated. In addition to academia, Covenant has a strong athletic program. I played soccer for 4 years and loved every minute of it. I felt as if I were a part of a second family. The school's community is amazing. When one family is in trouble or hurting, several others quickly come to help and support them. I would definitely encourage a visit to the school.

We are on our 4th student at Covenant. I cannot say enough good about the school. It has truly been a blessing to my family. I have 6 children, & I am confident that ALLwill attend CCHS. Of the three graduates, all attend very challenging colleges on academic merit based scholarships. One will be graduating this year as a mechanical engineer from the #1 undergrad engineering program in the US. Another is on Dean's list in a very challenging nursing program. The other is a freshman Finance major & econ minor at the #1 liberal arts school in the Midwest. All are Spanish minors because the program at CCHS was so strong that they test out of much of the college Spanish curriculum. Two are also college soccer players. More than that, the Spiritual impact on these kids is priceless. Those teachers love them & their relationships are still strong. CCHS prepared my kids to own THEIR faith and be able to defend it intelligently and with confidence. It may be wrong, but wife & I covet our children's CCHS experience. The minute you walk into the place, you can tell it's different. God is there & He is doing a tremendous work. I have referred MANY parents to CCHS. I encourage a visit.

Covenant Christian is more than a school, it's a community. The students learn to think for themselves and embrace their faith as their own. Students are encouraged emotionally about their faith but also are taught to be intellectual Christians. The teachers go out of their way to foster relationships and encourage the students. Even the office staff is amazing and know each student by name. The administration is on point and aligned with Christ's mission. This school is very special. It was an investment in our child's life that has been well worth it.

Entering my second semester of undergraduate studies, I can say that nothing could have prepared me better than CCHS. Many of my peers in college struggle to grasp difficult concepts after years of memorizing meaningless facts. From a liberal arts background, I know how to learn. From a spiritual perspective, I am ready and eager to engage those of different beliefs in intellectual discussions. Propelled by a great staff, strong Christian values and a student body like none other, CCHS is sure to satisfy a motivated student.

As a previous reviewer pointed out, CCHS' credo is 'Minds enlightened. Hearts inflamed. Lives transformed.' Quite pertinent to what actually occurs at the school. Covenant reaches far beyond the traditional Christian stereotypes (not to the point of being liberal, though) and seeks to provide non-limited education. The student body cap will always remain at 400 (I've been told) so that class sizes will be smaller and more intimate. I recommend this school wholly. Visit covenantchristian.org. More importantly, go visit the school. It is worth the drive!

You will get a return on your investment in your child's education, over and over. They grow educationally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I am amazed all the time with what might children have learned and how they interact with the world. It is truly a blessing.

This school is awesome. No place on earth is perfect, but they do a great job of teaching the kids to think for themselves and to have a Christian worldview that will help in years to come. They have great sports activities, super drama, and a spanish department that is hands down the best in the nation.

Covenant Christian High School has a motto that it lives by: Minds Enlightened, Hearts Inflamed, Lives Transformed. This is seen in every aspect of the school, from teachers, to students, to the staff. Everyone comes together to educate and train each other in life, in school, and in Christ.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the End-of-Course (ECA) assessment to test students in middle and high school in Algebra I, Biology I, and English 10. The ECA is a criterion-referenced assessment developed specifically for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

Above
average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
