Phalen Leadership Academy is a wonderful school, if you are looking for a school from kindergarten to the fourth grade, this is the place for you.The staffs and teachers are some of the best in Indianapolis,They strive for academic excellence. They are friendly and warm, you will not find a better school than this. I have a first grader there, she loves it there when she is not in school she talks about it all the time and miss being there.

My child has is diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD. As a result, one would think that school would be challenging. This has not been the case for my son. My son is THRIVING in the environment that PLA has created. He LOVES his teacher and teaching assistant! They are so kind, understanding, and flexible when working with him. There is a positive behavior system in place that allows scholars to move up and down for behaviors. He loves coming home to say that he was on "Perfect Pink". In addition, the school model is perfect for my son. Every 30 minutes he is moving to a different station, or learning activity, which is great for his ADHD. Finally, my son is THRILLED with the enrichment classes. He loves going to Zumba, Tile Painting, and Puzzles. The administration and teachers at PLA are truly some of the best that I have ever seen! I would highly recommend PLA for any child.

My son is a recent transfer from another school. He's only been at PLA for about a month and I love it! It's a much better atmosphere than his last which was more "military." His teacher and staff are all very caring and passionate about the kids and their education. My only regret is not enrolling him at PLA first. One of the main reasons for enrolling my son is that he is being taught on his own level. I like that the classes are small and that the students get the individual attention when needed. Another reason was their discipline policy. They are not quick to suspend a child for minor reasons but they work with teachers, parents, principals, and counselors to help the child with whatever issue they're having. For my son, that was a plus. He's had such a tough transition into kindergarten and they are very understanding of that. PLA is the best charter school in the city.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
