My son has just started first grade after completing kindergarden. His kindergarden teacher was great and so far his 1st grade teacher is too. I am not sure about the principal. I have heard some rumblings of discontent. My wife and I plan on being very involved. We don't believe it is all the teachers responsibility. However, management can kill a good think. We will be updating this site.
I have a child that attends this school and when there are issues that arise and I am told that it will be dealt with at in what form I observed another
While some teachers here are great some fall way below the standards that I am accustomed to. I do not see how the principal leadership is that great. There has been three different principals there in the four years my children have attended. The principle of the school now lacks on knowing how to speak to parents and the children on matters of dicipline.
I went to this school from kindergarten to grade 6 [this was before they had preschool]. It's a great school. We went through 3 principals, one retired and one moved to the school his son was teaching at. The teachers and the students form a strong bond here. And whenever a teacher retires, the whole school is in tears. They offer so many opportunities for students. Everyone is so understanding, they try their very best to see all perspectives. Mr. Fortune, the newest principal, has so many great expectations for the school, so many creative ideas. Newby just got a new playground recently, in addition to the old one. Both of the new specials teachers are great. The building itself holds so much history. I hope it comes to be the 4 star school is so obviously deserves to be.
A new principal with high expectations for students and a caring staff make this a wonderful place for my child to learn. With the help of many wonderful parents, this historic building is a great setting for a child's education.
The principal lacks discipline and makes life hard for most of his teaching staff. There are several teachers at Newby who do not enjoy teaching anymore and are waiting for retirement.
The school, although its size would make you wonder, is actually a very large mix of good and wonderful people that you will have a hard time meeting at a bigger more complex school. Its tiny size, is good for small children and doesn't scare them as much as a bigger school. It opens it's arms to anyone and everybody. Your children will feel right at home and you don't need to worry about if your children will fit in and if they will have any conflicts. The teachers are very prepared and well educated to deal with the problems that children face. I am very glad that Newby is there for our children and hope that many families chose this highly academic building.
I am so happy that my children received their elementary education at Newby. This school has been and will continue to be very special to my family. The teachers are wonderful. The principal is very caring and wonderful when it comes to knowing what is best for the children. The clubs and academic teams are great for the children. I would recommend this school to anyone that has children entering school or to children new to the community.
