Reviews of this school are very polar as are experiences that go along with this school. I was a student here and depending on what family you come from and how much money you have, gives you these polar view points. If your family is well off and gives plenty to the school and church, more than likely your child will do just fine. However, the children that do not have this sort of background and appear different not only have poor experiences, but the school does nothing to help them. I have seen it from both sides and it saddens me that a school can call itself Lutheran and have this sort of eliteist attitude toward these kind of situations. I did however receive a great education, but a very poor experience. If you are looking for good Chirstian values, they teach it well, but fail to practice it.

To berate Central is unfounded, witness their ISTEP testing scores. Out standing school with a fantastic reputation in New Haven and NE IN.

My children attended Central Lutheran School. There are good memories and not so good memories. But I would recommend this school to anyone who would ask me. As I read through the reviews as parents we must remember each child is an individual and should be treated as such. What school was good for one may not be the best for another. But to look at the test scores, this school does prepare students for High School. The teachers are good and several are OUTSTANDING! The leadership is strong and will be stronger with our new principal coming this summer. The Academic programs are very good - again check out the test scores.

Central is a Christian school in name only. I would NEVER recommend this school. Our experience - with three children in various grade levels - was, at best, substandard to public schools in terms of academics - particularly math. And, at worst, one of the middle school level teachers was verbally and physically abusive to many students. Over the several years we were associated with this school, my students were stunted academically and their faith was damaged, almost beyond repair.

The level of academics is below that of local public schools. The school board's answer to this was "we all passed ISTEP". I want more than the minimum requirements for my children, which is why I looked for a Christian school.

My child was the victim of extreme bullying and the principal's answer was maybe I should remove my child. You better believe I did! This is NOT a Christian school.

My child was NOT academically prepared for high school. Although she was able to get up to speed after the first semester in high school, her advanced placement tests prior to entering high school fell short. When I brought this concern to the school board it became a personal vendetta against the teacher of that subject.

Central Lutheran School is a wonderful Christian school. It provides numerous extracurricular activities for any and all students. It provides flexiblity for parents to be as actively involved as they want to be, whether they work full time, part time, or are a stay at home parent. Academically, the students are well prepared for high school, exceeding my expectations.

I am a graduate of CLS, and I loved it there. It is definitely a 'Loving, Caring, and Sharing family of Christians.'

Central offers a Christ based education that is second to none. My children are currently attending which makes them the third generation of my family to attend Central. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a school for their children.

I love C.L.S. and the parents and students at the school. As a working mom, I appreciate the opportunities to still help out in the classroom with at home projects or sending cookies in and getting the field trip dates way in advance so that I can ask off of work to attend a few of these with my child. My child had formed many lasting friendships at this school.

I think Central is generally a good school, with eminant individual attention. There are some equality issues among the students, and the stereotypical Christian braingwashing, and Republican politics is also a major element to the school's atmosphere. Still, my teachers are mostly very nice and fair, and I think it is a very good school to attend.

I think this school is more about money than the children in my experience. If you don't have money and aren't a stay at home mom, you are looked down on. Some of the kids that go there are not very nice kids for going to a Christian school.

Great school! I am proud to have my son in this school. The CLS staff is very caring and willing to work with the parents. I am especially impressed with the music program at the school. Several opportunities for band as well as choir. The school also offers chess club as well as a robotics team. In the area of academics the school participates in several academic bowls. Very friendly principal.

Central Lutheran School is a Caring, Loving, Sharing, Family of Christians. I was very impressed while during the eighth grade year having to write a Term Paper, so they know how to make one for highschool. The whole school is a great learning enviroment for (a) child(ren) from k-8. Every grade well equiped for students of that age group.

CLS is a caring, loving, sharing family of Christians. CLS is an excellent school that provides a Christian education in a safe environment to grades K - 8. The faculty demonstrate God's love and genuine intrest to each of their students. The faculty members are easily accessible and willing to consult with parents. CLS is blessed with a curriculum that has demonstrated solid performance in ISTEP testing. CLS possesses comparatively the best computer lab of all elementary schools in the area. The school is currently going through a facility upgrade that will continue to provide a comfortable environment to students for years to come. The CLS staff welcomes any opportunity to acquaint prospective students / families to our school.

Very nice school. Good Christian teachers and staff. We no longer have children at this school but, miss it's positive, nuturing christian enviroment. As the above review mentions 'clicks'....I believe this to be an issue at most schools. In my opinion this is not a big problem at CLS. Teachers and staff keep up to good work!

A very clique school, you have to be one of the rich students to be treated fairly, the school itself needs to be updated and playground is below par for the younger kids.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
