I attending John Glenn a few years back and agree it is a great family oriented school. It has a wide variety of well developed athletic and musical programs. I have heard there has been a change of principles and think that would have made all the difference in the world! I understand the curriculum is about the same, as most of the teachers are still teaching. This would be my only complaint. I feel I was not adaquately preparded for higher education and felt behind many of the other students once I began college.I feel this rests in the hands of many teachers I didn't feel were up to standard. If JGHS could adopt more of a "college-prep" attitude I would give it 5 stars!

I recently graduated from John Glenn in the class of 2008, and I have to say that this school is very a positive place. The extracurricular activities that this school offers are very in depth and kids that are involved in them are always very enthusiastic about what they do. This school does a good job of keeping kids focused and helping the kids keep track of what they need to do in order to learn everything it takes to succeed

I graduated myself from John Glenn High School and now have a daughter attending. Some of the teachers are fantastic while others are not so great. The music programs (band, choir, 1st Edition, etc.) are fantastic and are comparable to schools many times the size of John Glenn. The athletics are fantastic for the boys programs but really need improvement or at least equal attention for the girls programs. The facility is top notch and all of the hardware needed to make any child successful is provided. I would like to see the online progress reports provided on a more regular basis by the teaching staff. It seems like the ed-line grades are always behind or missing information. Overall, John Glenn is a very good school.

This is a family type school. The teachers in this corporation are wonderful. Has Glenn had a few bad apples, yes, but what school hasn't? The scores on the Isteps prove it. They have been going up every year. If you go into South Bend, everyone there thinks of Glenn has a high class school. My children go there and my son graduated and is attending Notre Dame. Wow! There is no better place to raise you kids! Look at the stats! These people really care. In the past year, if you watch the news, John Glenn is always recognized for something. We have had 7 students that have won the student athlete award. GO John Glenn!

I graduated from John Glenn and was very happy with my school. The teachers and administration staff really care about their students. I woul have to say that my favorites teachers were Mr. Kaser (science) and Mr. Hernandez ( 12th grade english). I can not wait for my kids to attend this school!

There couldn't be a better place for me to send my two children. My son is a junior this year, and he is very excited about the rigorous and exciting courses he and his counselor have specially developed, taylored specificly to his needs. My daughter recently graduated from Glenn and got accepted into a Big 10 university with both athletic and academic scholarsips, as both are acceptionally competitive fields at John Glenn. And how can a mother not feel safe with her children at this school? After all it is surrounded by, what, a church and a couple fields?

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the End-of-Course (ECA) assessment to test students in middle and high school in Algebra I, Biology I, and English 10. The ECA is a criterion-referenced assessment developed specifically for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
