On the first day of school this year(13-14) the eighth grade kids were told they would not have math text books. No one told the parents anything about this. The principal said they were deciding if they were buying books or laptops, the vice principal says they have text books even though I have an e-mail stating they don't and the kids telling me they don't. The school is failing in math so they have been having a quiz while there in line at lunch if you get the question wrong you go to the end of the line. They have three English classes a day and only one math. If you call in to talk to the principal Mr. Derst you won't be able to and will be transferred to the counselor the vice principal Mr. Mopin will tell you what he thinks you want to here but not the truth even when you confront him with it. I'm very disappointed with this new middle school my child went to Denmark and we loved it the teachers were wonderful and I think some are here but its a mess. They should have saved the money they spent on building the school and invested in new books of the kids to help with there education. my 6th graders math book is from 1999. Very sad.
students get bullied and staff refuse to do anything about it. My Relative attends and has recently been bullied emotionally and physically, When her parents contacted the school, they refused to even attempt to stop the bullying.
The teachers and students at this school have really impressed me this year. My best friend lsot her son and another parent lost his son who were students of FMMS last year. The students and faculty really pulled together and gave them so much support. They have had several community efforts to raise money for the families and even dedicated a plaque to the two boys and had a beatuiful ceremony. This school system has had a lot of negative press, and I think it's time some of the people of this area knew about the good things they've done!
The teachers and administrator here at FMMS are all about making sure the students get an education and are safe doing it. There have been a lot of changes in the last couple of years that have really shown an improvement for the middle school. Teachers communicate with the parents frequently. They are using more technology in the classroom. I'm very proud of the steps they have taken these last two years and the improvements they have made.
