I cannot say enough great things about Mize. Our son has behavioral problems and everyone at Mize has been wonderful in helping him. We are so lucky to be at Mize. They truly care about our son.
Mize school has offered our young daughter phenomenal educational opportunities. Her teacher authentically cares about the students and their academic success! Our daughter loves getting up and going to Mize. She will begin at Belmont next fall we can only hope for the same quality in the teaching and administrative staff!
As we relocate to another state and I parooze this site looking for a great school for our children I have to keep in mind, not to put too much stock in the reviews. Mize has a 5 out of 10 and it's a wonderful school. We've been so impressed w/ our daughter's teachers and the open lines of communications. She has received a great education bottom line. Some reviews are just petty and do not indicate quality of education. If you are relocating to the area don't let Mize's rating deter you. It is a wonderful learning community. As are all the schools in the Desto/Shawnee/Olathe/BlueValley school districts.
We are very pleased with the great education our son is getting at Mize. The staff are very helpful and they do a great job of communicating with the parents about what is going on in the classroom.
My grandchildren are always eager to go to school and participate in extra activities. The reading program is the best! Great teachers.
There is no structure to the school. The car loop is very disorganized and dangerous. The Principal is very nice, but wants to please everyone and you just cannot. There are too many first-year or new teachers in the district who get overwhelmed with discipline issues rather then teaching. And, children who tend to need more support in reading, math, etc., they just get overlooked; parents have to be proactive in making sure their children get a good education!
We are continually impressed year after year with the well-rounded and high quality curriculum at Mize. Solid foundations are taught in all subjects using all available techniques to reach each kind of learner. Respect and integrity are key character concepts of the environment there and it shows in both the children's behaviors and the teacher/parent relationships.
Mize Elementary's school building is lovely and the playground is nice. This is the only positive comment I can make about the Desoto School district
