Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have known many students at SCAPA and I assure you they were admitted on their skill. There have been many applicants that were moderately talented, but came from wealth, influential families and were not admitted. It is comforting to blame one's rejection on factors other than one's skill and believe that those of privilege have an advantage. That IS NOT the case for SCAPA. Anyone who honestly evaluates the application process and looks at the resumes of those that are accepted will see this is accurate.

SCAPA is an amazing school, with wonderful and passionate teachers. My daughter is challenged academically and in her arts area. We cannot say enough about the program, and feel very blessed to have the opportunity.

I love this school!. My daughter is not a legacy. We do not have a lot of money and I am a single parent, so there has never been any lessons. My daughter is a drama major there and I have watched the staff encourage every student. There are no favorites. The other parents and staff have went out of their way to make sure that my daughter is able to get to all of the activities if I don't get out of work in time. She had never picked up a violin before going to this school, but 2/3 of the way through the school year she was able play simple songs properly. She is also able to read notes. There is a very high standard for academics. they encourage thinking for themselves and that there is not necessarily 1 way to solve the problem. It is true that most of the families have money, but the staff and other students/families do not treat us as if we are inferior. The students go out of their way to encourage each other. Parents are very involved at the school

It is not a true ARTS School. Arts training has to come from private lessons, that tend to be very expensive. There is a great deal of favoritism. There is a limited amount of staff resources so they decide who they will invest their time in. It has nothing to do with legacy families they just PICK who they like and they work them the most.. Of course these children will end up being better because they get more attention. If you complain at the school level your child will get blackballed.

Academically a good school. As far as arts teachers go, the teachers there aren't well trained in their particular area, aren't required to have a masters degree. The teachers there, like the students, are hand picked for their spot as teacher because they are well connected in the community, not necessarily the best person, or best trained for the teaching job. No syllabus is required from the teacher as to what they will cover each year. Not the place to get good arts training, even though as an arts school that is what they claim. The school doesn't offer a great education for all students, only their favorites, or the students that are part of legacy families--the families that have had multiple children attend the school.

SCAPA is like another home to my child. I love it! The teachers are more than willing to help any student and are very friendly.

The school academics or so so. Some teachers grade hard but are not necessarily good teachers. They get good scores because they had pick smart kids who are well educated before they get there. It is a elite school paid for by tax payer dollars. Very very political. They don't care about the individual child they care about the reputation of the school and the egos of the staff. The gifted children who go there get in because they have the best private teachers money can buy who prepare them for the auditions. Usually teachers kids get in because they have access to the good private teachers. Every now and then they will take a minority kid to show that they do that but usually the child has a hard time fitting into the school because the kids are all from different social economical backgrounds.

This school opens up the lives of its students to new worlds. After her first day of school there, my eight year old daughter came home and said 'Dad, these kids are just like me!'

The students get to learn by experiencing 9 different art areas. They get to express themselves through the arts throughout the day, not just one class. They are challenged academically and very focused students! The teachers really go to many lengths to help students learn, even if they have learning differences.

Very fine school for artistic and academic training for grades 4-8. SCAPA Bluegrass is unique in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as are SCAPA teachers and students.

Two of my daughters have already been involved in learning at SCAPA and have received an incredible education both academically and of course, in the ARTS! The standards are high, the atmosphere is inspiring and the outcomes are incredible! I only hope my other two daughters will have the same opportunity to attend!

I have 2 very different daughters attending SCAPA, but they both love the arts and couldn't be happier at the opportunities they have had during each day at school. These students are not only talented in the arts, but are motivated to do well academically in such an exciting environment. It is such a unique school in Kentucky, yet it is public and can reach many children. I have been so excited about the education there, and the wonderful teachers who have gone above and beyond a normal school day because they love what they do there.

SCAPA is a wonderful school that allows kids to learn in an environment that is fun, exciting, many things going on every day with a creative engery from all - teachers, parents, and kids alike. It is a very special, one-of-a-kind way for children to learn.

SCAPA strives for and achieves academic excellence while appreciating and incorporating the performing arts. Creativity is nurtured here and not pushed aside. The staff understands the heart and mind of the creative child and use their expertise to foster a true love of learning! Truly an AMAZING school!

I love SCAPA for many reasons, but primarily because it is a place where the things our children love to do and are good at are valued. They get to do something they feel competent at every day and that encourages them to do better in everything else. They find the confidence to try harder at the things they find challenging. Participation in the arts gives them a world view that is unlike any other.

Because my child wants to be there! because the teachers care about what their children are learning.Because the kids at this school are allowed to be who they are and don't have to fit into a niche that someone put them in.Because it is a happy place to be! Because there is no right or wrong way to learn!

SCAPA keeps the ARTS in their HEARTS and it shows. The whole staff is wonderful and they really care about the whole child, not just the academic part of a childs life. The teachers are so willing to work with any child that might have difficulties in the classroom or even outside of the classroom.

Children are nutured in education and the arts at SCAPA, and not just by teachers and administrators who are performing a job ... but who are committed to the students and want to help them grown into amazing adults. My daughter hates to miss school ... she just wants to be there every day! That is why SCAPA is so wonderful!

SCAPA at Bluegrass is an excellent school. It taught me many things from school studies to discipline to all the areas of art. I just graduated from Scapa at Bluegrass and miss it so much. There is no school that can compare! Go Scapa Penguins! I have learned lots at this school, and if I didn't go here I would have missed out on lots of oppurtunities that other schools would never have given me. From 4th through 8th grade, Scapa at Bluegrass is a great environment. Students who leave Scapa at Bluegrass are young men and women who grow up and are disciplined in all areas of life. There is no place like Scapa! (and its true)

Math is fine in elementary, but I can't agree with the reading. the best thing is the students have different teachers for each course, it's better than most public elementary schools. I like the science teacher though she is strict.

I love SCAPA because I get a hands on learning experience that I wouldn't get at any other school. Also, you get special training in two arts areas so you can discover your talents and use them in the future.

Poor leadership. No actual arts training--must get that out of school in the community. High school especially has poor organization and leadership by principal at Middle and High School levels.

This school teaches grades 4th thru 8th with an emphasis on the arts. It is one of the top academically scoring schools in the state and offers students education in voice, dance, drama, art, orchestra, creative writing and band. The school has very high parent involvement and the teachers are dedicated and caring.

SCAPA Bluegrass is a wonderful elementary/middle school, but is not a magnet school. It is a gifted school. Teachers are very dedicated and the Friends of the Arts School, the parent organization, is very active and makes possible the many arts opportunities the students have.
