I am going into the 7th grade this year and I hope this year will be better than the last. Last year, I was on the S.W.A.T. Team, and we didn't go on any real field trips at all. We walked over to McDonalds and Dairy Queen one time. But that was it. Everything as far as learning goes is very good though, they can be strict sometimes, but throughout the day, they soften up a little bit. I hope this helps any newcomer to SLMS.....most likely not....but anyways, this school is pretty okay, there are keyboarding classes and different clubs to choose from,(that meet once a month). So what I am trying to say is, that this is a pretty normal and average middle school.

I am a 7th grader entering the 8th and I find this school very interesting. I love all the teachers here. They make our learning experience so very fun, not just a boring reveiw or lesson.

I'm a student entering my eigth grade year at South Laurel middle school. I have qualified for advanced placement, and I feel that the teaches I have had try to differentiate between advanced students and students who need more explanation. They don't discriminate, but they do help students learn and remain interested. The advanced placement in Social Studies, reading and Language Arts is somewhat lacking, but Science and Mathematics is where the school's curriculum really shines. The school places alot of emphasis on helping special ed students, and the principals do very well at their job.

SLMS is a good school. But for children with special needs instead of addressing those needs the faculty does what it can to push the child out.

The only bad thing I can say about SLMS is they need to push the NO BULLY law. Other then that SLMS is one prolly the best of school that my children has attended. With 2 kids in that school now and one already out of the middle school now in SLHS. the school is alright in my book.

My son has attended South Middle for the last two years, he seems to be bored with his class work. He brings home a's and b's usually nothing under a 90. I don't think he is being pushed to his abilities. I feel like the teachers should be more involved with what occurs in their classrooms. I think sports and winning are more important to the school than the education and classes.

In my opinion, this school is the best in laurel county. I have been attending it for two years in all and love it! It has a good education system, although the punishments are somewhat unfair and i disagree with some of the rules that teachers behold in their classrooms. All an all the students, (including me)that i have associated with that attend SLMS are all happy with the way the school system goes. Also I would like for the rules to be reviewed and fixed therefore all students will be pleased.

I had 3 children attend SLMS, and can honestly say that their grades, friends, and attitudes were better while attending SLMS than anywhere else. The teachers are willing to go the extra mile to help any student that may need it, and that makes a big difference. I also want to thank all the coaches, because not only do they accomplish that large job, they also make sure to include general attitude and respect. Keep up the good work!

Me & my family think very highly of this school. My son is in his 3rd and final year at this school & he has had very cooperative teachers, principals, and other staff members. Any problem with grades everyone has been eager to help us to help our son. I would say that they generally care about the welfare of each child at South Laurel Middle School.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Kentucky used the Kentucky Core Content Tests (KCCT) to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 through 12 in reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. The Elementary School results displayed on GreatSchools profiles are for grades 3 through 5 combined for each subject. Middle School results are for grades 6 though 8 combined, and High School results are for grades 10 though 12 combined. The KCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Kentucky.
