Things have impoved since the alumni got involved. Although the virtual school has helped with enrollment and brought he school up to the 21st century. The admin has changed and the focus is different--and that's for the better! So many good academic programs are available. I'm proud to say I'm an alum!
This school could have better direction with the administration , parents, etc.. The Teachers should teach and reinforce the teachings of the student teachers, and check behind them when grades on papers are submitted. Some of these teachers need to learn some courtesy with ALL parents not just the who's who in the society world.
Great school, great environment, great athletics! Test scores has improved! Southern Lab is the best school in the city! Just like anything in life the school can improve. But it needs more assistance from parents, alumni, & faculty! Also, holding Southern University accountable for school or facilties, and academics ugrades! SU really neglects the Lab School!
For this school to be on a college campus, the admistration is out of the loop on a lot of things concerning the students. Parent-Teacher relationships or contact is horrible. This is a school for athletics. PERIOD. That is where their focus is, NOT IN THE CLASSROOM. Would not recommend Southern Lab for academics at all. There is room for a lot of improvement from administration down to teacher. Great family environment. But that is where is stops.
School is well versed in the current NCLB Legislation. There are excellent college prep opportunities including concurrent enrollment on the Southern University Freshman for graduating seniors. There is a high rate of passage for the LEAP and the atmosphere is a family like setting. Who can beat sending their child to a school located on a Historically Black Campus with small class sizes to cater to the learning needs to the student.
