I have to say that Buckeye High School has made some progress with some room to move upwards. Being in a rural community funding is limited, the students this year are in a brand new building with wireless internet. There is a drama club this year. The community had to vote for a bond issue in order for the new school to be built. I am thankful that the bond was passed. Buckeye is making progress, and it is up to the community to help the school make upward progress. Our school does not have the advantage of having corporate businesses and city taxes to aid in its growth. I must say, for a rural school, Buckeye is excellent.
Great School. You are very free to express yourself in everyway. Also, we do now have a drama club and a unbiased yearbook staff. As far as just focusing on Buckeye, that is the same with any school.
Great school, great teachers, great learning.
This is a great school. It's a quiet neighborhood and a good learning enviornment. The staff is superior.
I definitely agree with Shelly...arts and cultural diversity was severely lacking when I graduated in 2001. There is a stage, but no drama program. There are no media prep courses...other than Yearbook...which was very biased on which students can participate...despite ambitions. We had outdated computers. Everything revolved around athletics. Very little effort or money was put towards art, choir and band. I, also, was very fortunate to have a select few teachers that noticed this and changed their teachings to cater to these issues (one, in particular, unfortunately only filled in for a semester). So many Buckeye graduates go on in life to pursue the arts, and find out they are terribly under-educated and exposed. The world has changed...this school needs to, also. It really was a shame. Athletes had brand new equipment...while band kids wore used uniforms and played busted instruments. Please, someone, tell me things have changed.
I have to say that I agree with Ms. Fussell. While going to such a small school in such a rural area was a good experience, it did not prepare you for the world. Deville/Buckeye has such a tendency to focus only on Deville/Buckeye. Teachers and administration would do well to incorporate a bit more culture and more of the arts in Buckeye's curriculum.
I graduated from Buckeye High School in 1999. I received a wonderful education that prepared me for college and ultimately life in general. There was however a lack of cultural interest. I feel it's very important that the current and future children at BHS be taught to except and love people of all races and backgrounds. I also feel that the arts should be more prominent in the school. Everything from visual to performing arts is important in the growth and development in a child. I was blessed to have a few teachers who encouraged me to make art and to express myself and my imagination. I believe the school would benefit in encouraging each child to grow in their own strengths.
