As a past student of Hornbeck High School I have a few things to say. First while students are encouraged to participate in sports there is no preferential treatment based on this. Secondly, like all schools there are teachers who are excellent and some who are a little less. As for the fine arts which are not offered, very few schools in the system have these programs because they are so small. Hornbeck High School has excellent test scores, as good as any in the parish, in fact the year I graduated, we had a higher percentage of 4.0 students and 3.5 and above students, than many of the schools in the parish including Anacoco High School. Like all things, you will get out of this school what you put into it, this includes the students working hard and interacting with the teachers so the teachers can better serve their needs, this also includes parents being actively involved in their child's education. All in all HHS is a great school and should not be looked down upon because of the fact that it is small. It is a very close-knit school and one that I am proud to be a graduate of.

Hornbeck High School sucks. It focues more on sports than learning. Its not a good school.

I as a parent, has to say I'm very disappointed in our Hornbeck school. Yes, the people of sports get way better treatment. I believe there should be more than baseball and basketball, stuff like soccer, art, music, and other stuff to give other kids a chance at things. I also think they need better teachers, and the principal should take more interest in our kids than what he does. I think our parent involvement is ok in some ways. I believe some of the teachers need to be more helpful to all of the children in need of help.

There are a few great teachers at this school, however, my children's education has suffered severely. My children are not getting the best possible education. I believe this school is in need of re-staffing.

The academic program is weak and far behind most schools. As for music, art, and sports, they have choir, baseball, and basketball only. Parental envolvement is weak and barely there. The only parents I see involved are in sports and those with very young children. When my child attended headstart the teacher there told my husband, who primarily took her to school and pick her up, that the mother should be the one to do this. I worked a full time job in another city and they refused to call him when she was sick. This school needs some serious review and major improvements.
